I have only tried two kinds, Jim Beam and Wild Turkey. Does anyone have other suggestions? I actually like rye better than bourbon, it seems "drier" in flavor. Plus Boagie mentions it in several of his films. From what I understand many of the founding fathers were fond of the drink as well (notably Washington) as bourbon had not come into it's own as of yet.

Suggestions welcome.

I've tried the Wild Turkey Rye, it's not bad but I prefer bourbon.

Best description I have read of the flavor compared to bourbon is "peppery".

There is a complexity to a good rye that you just can't get in most whiskeys.  I find myself torn between good American Rye and Irish Whiskey

Sazerac and Bulliet are my go to brand. Had some Beam the other day and it just doesn't compare at all. Almost tastes watered down.

Indeed? Sadly I live in a state where the gov controls liquor sales. Our choices are limited, and that one is not on the menu.

I found Bulleit Rye a few weeks ago. Pretty good.

The stores in MN don't seem to be big on rye, but a few do carry Russell's, it's worth a try.

If you can find it, Sazerac 18yo is ...awesome.

Back when I drank a lot of Beam I aspired to collect 1 of each bottle they made. Drank a 750 of rye, but never bought any more so don't guess it made much of an impression on me.

I'm intrigued, Bulleit is popular at the re-enactments I go to. I would love to taste their rye.

I grew up in the county where that was made in local, hidden stills during prohibition and where it is made (legally) today.  GrandDad used to tell us that when he was a young man (21-25ish) he made a few extra bucks stashing jugs of Templeton Rye in his oats bin on the farm.

Late at night a car would deliver it, then several days later a different car would come & retrieve it, moving it on it's way to Al Capone in Chicago.  Capone really liked it and called it "the good stuff".

I have two unopened, special-lable bottles celebrating Templeton's 125 year anniversary 3 or 4 years ago.  One bottle is marked Barrel Number 1, Bottle Number 66.  The other bottle is from Barrel Number 4.

Both would go for well over $100 each on ebay, I'm guessing, as I saw a regular labled bottle from a newer batch recently at $102.
