So I dropped in at my local pawn shop and was just hanging out looking at guns and talking with my friends.  One of the guys working there asked me if I wanted to take a look at a fake Rolex they took in.  Being a Watch Connoisseur I, of course, said yes.  He brought it out in a Rolex box and said that he was surprised the owner of the pawn shop hadn't taken a hammer to it yet.
I was checking it out and it looked authentic (Serial Number / Model Numbers / and other details).  I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said they had $200.00 into it and that they had already taken it out of inventory because they thought it was a fake.
I told him that I would like to have it checked out so I took it to our local Rolex trained watchmaker who authenticated it.
I drove back to the pawn shop and told him that I would buy it and that it was an authentic Rolex.  To my surprise, he said I could have it for what he had into it.  I told him that I didn't want to abuse our friendship and he could keep it and sell it if he wanted to and it wouldn't hurt my feelings.
He insisted I take it.  That is one great pawn shop and a great crew there.

It needs a little cleaning and servicing, but I couldn't go wrong on this one.

It will make a nice present for the wife..
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady's Date

This is an older one, but the new ones can be found from $5,700 - $9,000 depending on the model and retailer.  Used they go for $2,100 -$2,600.

I used to have a Submariner but sold it about seven years ago.

I also had a "Folex" (Fake Rolex) once.

I handed it to the watchmaker and he asked me how much I paid for it.  After he took the back off, he said he'd give me $200.00 for it.

So you got to say "I have a friend who knows about these...let me have him take a look at it."?

Epic!

That is code for - I think its ugly and would never wear that thing.

You did pretty good for yourself on that deal though.

Why would someone pass up making several thousand dollars? Not to say you didn't pay what you paid, and not to say its fake, but who in their mind would let something go like that? I can't even get one unless my boss makes at least 100 bucks on it.

Positive.  They tested the gold on it and it was real.  I took it to a Rolex trainer watchmaker and he authenticated it.

I'm dubious, so a pawn shop owner sees "Rolex" and doesn't take it to the same local Rolex trained watchmaker you did to authenticated it?

I am in there usually 2 or 3 times a week. They are pretty decent people.  I have seen them do things that other pawn shops would never do.  They don't screw people or take advantage of people.
I can guarantee the watch is authentic and I'll post the receipt.

Yep.  Small town.  I think he has bigger issues with the person that told him it was a fake.

It's not the first time this has happened.  Two years ago, I bought my Rolex DateJust two tone from them for $600.00 (Boxes, Papers, Hang Tags, Etc).  It was a little beat up so I had it serviced and it looked like new.  I keep falling into Rolex watches when I am looking for a JLC or Brietling.

Wish I would just "fall into a Rolex".

One of those things I have always said I will own someday.

Really nice find....for under a thousand you could easily have it refinished nicely.
Ought to make a nice keeper, or at least a quick turnaround profit.

The person that walked in off the street wouldn't have got that deal.  And it was a fluke.

What kind of pawn shop has $200 in what they thought was a fake Rolex?

Did they originally think it was real then get a bad opinion?
