City called area "blighted" but wouldn't show their evidence.  700 homes involved.  Hispanic area ..?

Wonder if the city will appeal?

Good.

Worse yet, that the city wouldn't, or couldn't, turn over any evidence the area was blighted.  They hired a private consultant with taxpayer money to document the alleged "blight" before they tried to take almost 700 properties, and then refused to show the evidence of blight that consultant allegedly produced.  From the IJ regarding this part of the case:

Finally, in a holding with implications well beyond redevelopment law, the Court also held that when the government retains a private consultant to perform government functions—in this case, documenting the existence of alleged “blight” in National City—documents that the private consultant produces are public records subject to disclosure under the California Public Records Act.

Good.  This was a huge attempted land grab.

I used to work in National City.  There are bad areas, but there are also some old Victorian homes that are well-kept.  The poorest parts are not anywhere near as bad as the poorest parts of the much larger city of San Diego.

Nat city is a heavily Hispanic area, parts of it look more like Mexico then the US.

A town I used to live in tried to encourage "redevelopment" in the barrio and they were met with fierce resistance by the residents. The area wound up being declared a "Hispanic cultural district".
