After Katrina I saw a lot of 18 wheelers with Southern Baptist something another on it that were feeding people and clothing them etc...They had a ton of resources and I assume they would be in Alabama as well. They had a lot of mobile kitchens etc...ready to go built into 18 wheelers.
I'll have to search for the specific name. Edit - I believe it's Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. |

Where ever you end up donating, make sure and specify which disaster you want it to go towards on the check. Otherwise it might go into a "general" disaster fund and might not be used for your intended purpose.

yep the baptist do good work , Im trained to work recovery with them .... Im one of them I guess ..... they are divided by state.
 a small clean up trailer , saws , shovels , hammers ect ...... also have large food and shower trailers |

I went with the Baptists.
Part of my reticence to give it to the Red Cross comes from the fact it was impossible to designate it for the tornado relief. |

As we swam back to my truck with waterproofed items in tow, literally dozens of family trying to make it to their homes to salvage what they could, a Red Cross truck pulled up, guy kicked out a box about the size of a medium PO Flat Rate Shipping box and took off. That was the entire amount of RC assistance the neighborhood got. |

Red Cross sucks and is keeping more relief from making their way in the area. That's what I'm hearing from relatives and friends. Plus, there is so much donated money that goes to administration fees that the percentage of money that we donate that actually goes to those in need is remarkably small.
+1 on the area churches. No admnistrative costs and they are more familiar of who needs what. |
