Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Trane $3800, Amana $2300 AC worth the difference?

Ok, I'm the guy who's AC got hit by lightning on Monday.  I have decided not to spend the $1000 to replace the compressor on a 15 year old tempstar.  I have quotes for 3ton 12 seer units and they range between $3800 for the Trane to  $2300 for the Amana.  Is a Trane really worth this much difference?  I will probably live in this house another 10 years, do I really need to spend 4grand for a good unit?  I really do value you guys opinion.  Thanks.

Nobody answered this poor guys question.
It was way back on page 56.
So with my wisdom I thought I would grace this thread
with my knowledge of AC units.

Yes Trane really worth this much difference.
So go buy it. Right now.

See there. That wasn't so bad.
