I had the misfortune to be present today at a very ghastly scene.  One soldier was killed and two badly burned when a main gun round exploded inside their M1 Abrahms on the range. The individuals sitting on the turrent were blown off and  badly burned.  The driver was trapped and burned to death in the vehicle. Best guess at this time is that a HEDP or HEAT round was set off by some sort of electrical short.  (they're electrically primed)  the two surviving troops condition at this time is undetermined.

Was the tank operating without a tank commander?

Kharn,  i'm uncertain.  One of the guys with their legs in the turret may be,  Neither of them are in any shape to ask.  I'm an MP, and tanks are not really in my field. I do know they were not on a firing run at the time.

Hope the other guys make it.
Isn't there a good burn unit on base in Texas?
