Using synthetic keeps you wood stocks "new"
Wood can swell in wet climates(rain) Synthetics are impervious to climate changes Synthetics are stronger too |

Yes, I have heard this before, and am aware of the environmental advantages of synthetic vs. wood. I'm really most interested in hearing specifics about Remington stocks.
Thanks for getting back so quickly. I need all the advice and insight I can get. |

the wood (remington) stocks APPEAR to be polyurethane(sp) coated from the factory.
VERY though finish. will resist water pretty well but not as good as synthetics.They(wood) will do fine in the field. |

The factory Remington stocks are rather soft and have a slightly 'rubbery' feel to them. They are not properly bedded or fitted to the actions they are installed on and really do not allow the Remington action to perform like it should if bedded and inletted in a stock by McMillan or Brown. IIRC all Rem 700 synthetic stocks are H.S. Precision, which means it has an aluminum bedding block and frame that runs the length of the stock. It does not need to be glassed.

I bought my wife a Rem. 700 with the factory synthetic stock and we have no complaints. The caliber is .30-06 Spfld. and the stock seems to minimize recoil. I know that is subjective, but this rifle definitely seems to be noticably less "punishing" than our others in the same caliber. The first load I tried shot right at an inch @ 100 yds., so I said "good 'nuff" and went deer hunting. The load consisted of RP cases, Win. LR primers, 50 gr. IMR 4895, Sierra 150 gr. BTSP bullets, in case anyone cares. I would definitely wait for the detachable box magazine if I had to do over. They are hard to find, but worth the wait, IMHO. No pun intended, IMHO. hehe [:D]
I have no experience with the after market stocks, so I hope this is at least a little helpful. I will buy more rifles with synthetics, especially for hunting, even though I LOVE walnut. |
