Benchrest shooters use huge thick barrels and have rifles that weigh close to 12-15 pounds. It's more to do with thermal properties than pure barrel accuracy.
So yes, size does matter. |

Yes it does , and we all know the biggest ones are dark in color [;D]

That is a very good question, me myself I've always had the longer barrels and when I pull them out in front of others I hear them remark and comment, sometimes negatively. They would say "That's too long" and I would reply "Well, do you like my bulbus muzzle brake?" And they would always tell me that they prefer "postban". Gee, what's a guy to do? No, but it gives me a great idea for a T-Shirt.
The Barrel Johnson T-Shirt!!!, This will feature our hero, The Bespectacled Master Gunsmith "Barrel Johnson" with the Logo wording "Hammer her Forge, With a Barrel Johnson Barrel" On the front, and "You'll Shoot a Mile" on the back. You can sell these shirts at the BRC. Heh heh heh... |

Many years ago, I asked an expert whom I "knew", and she said that it was more a matter of metallurgy -- as long as everything was properly and thoroughly hardened, and would last a long time, she was happy.

From the comments I've received, bore size is definitely important. I like to shoot a larger load downrange, hit something firm and watch it splatter.... [:D]

My wife finds the big barrel too much, but I had to stop her when she wanted to turn my 20" barrel into a Dissipator.

Unless it is a "mousegun", skill will always prevail. Proper tactics and training, as well as mindset are the key.

Sure, a large bore is great for long distance practice shooting, but we all know that when it is time for the real thing, the only thing that matters is shot placement. [:D]
