Ever think you'd see this in your lifetime?

When Nato believes Russia is no longer a threat, then it is time to disband Nato.

Could NATO be the foundation for the New NWO??

In my lifetime ?  No, hell no I didn't believe this to be probable.

The Baltics will be admitted to NATO this year and finally under an umbrella of protection.

I really like this trend.

Could anyone who actually believes in an NWO be hopelessly paranoid?

Or, how about NATO vs. UN at some point when certain policies diverge?  Almost sounds like a variation of Orwell's "Oceania" vs. "Eurasia" .  Instead of Europe in there, the UN enemy may become "Afrasia."  Alliances and interests can be a funny thing.  MAybe that's why President Washington warned against permanent alliances, which this NATO business certainly has become.

The fine print and secret codicils to any treaty extension would also be interesting: we'll find out in years to come what has been given away.

It never occurs to some people to "follow the money". The same bankers who financed Lenin and the Soviet socialist republics also own the American federal reserve bank. http://land.netonecom.net/tlp/ref/federal_reserve.shtml Some have a fear of the truth, it would turn their world upside down, and they would actually have to do something. They just don't have the intestinal fortitude to look at it. Kinda like an alcoholic in denial....

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion Rikwriter, but to call someone paranoid because there are people who want a world government is "paranoia" of those who are "pranoid".

There are a lot of grey areas and not everything is "cut and dry" (especially information/disinformation), but could you Rik say that there are no people who want a world governing body? no you cant. The issue is to what degree of influence those that want such a thing have on current politics. Is it likely anytime in our lifetime?, No i dont think so, but neither am i a fortune teller, who knows what the future holds, i dont and neither do you.[;)]

Well, maybe now NATOs purpose will be to defend the western world from the growing threat of the PRC, the Russians have more to fear from them then us.

China-Russia long time enemies.  Needs to remain that way.  China is definitely a threat to NATO countries and Russia.

I am sure that we will eventually have a world government.  This will happen when we as a species have matured to the point to embrace it.  We are not there yet.  Social theorists will try experiments, but in the end it would take a fundamental change such as an end to ethnocentrism, planet wide peace and prosperity, an end to want hunger and need.  These are things that are achieveable, but not yet.  The world government will happen after these things as it will be the only workable solution, when everyone is more or less happy noone will tolerate more local politicians messing it up.

It's a great idea. Russia has lost almost as many civillians to Bin Laden and Chechen terrorists as we have. We have a mutual enemy.

Also, maybe we will be able to convince Russia that there is a better way to fight a war against guerillas and terrorists (Afghanistan, Chechnya) other than carpet bombing civillians and making them hate you more.

Nope. I am not afraid of the paranoids, merely slightly annoyed by them.

Russia has much more in common with the west than the east, and trying to go it alone is not in the cards for a superpower on the wane.

I hope the Russians can get over the German menace mindset.  Integration with the west is definetly in their long term best interests.

It is interesting that the talk is about joining NATO instead of the EU.  I understand the push for central european nations to join is to get on that EU fasttrack.

Whoa!  Albania is on that Nato fasttrack?  Did I read that one correctly?
