Yeah, there was all sorts of excitement around here when he escaped. Automated system was calling everyone in the area warning them. I used to know some Pucketts and ALL of them were jacked up.

Did not see that sharp corner on that desk... *TWANK!" - Damn! should've opened the door a little more... Sorry! Good job. |

So how many years will they tack on to his sentence? He will now have an EX security precaution code, and will likely be considered a level III Seg offender. He will serve every bit of whatever his sentence WAS, and IIRC it will result in free world charges, but that's to be determined. He probably took at least...VERY least 6 CO's jobs with him, along with some Supervisors, if not the Warden....Which is too bad, because that Warden was actually starting to make some progress turning that sorry ass unit around. It wasn't a small job. He got out of a barred and wired rec "yard" in a seg pod, which is little more than about a 20X20 triganglish pad of concrete and bars with a B Ball hoop. He then defeated two external chain link and wire exterior fences, during the daylight, between two external guard towers. Lots, and, lots of job openings for the newly RIF'd employees. |

Investigators with TDCJ and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force tracked him to the woman's apartment. When they arrived at the apartment at about 8:45 p.m., Puckett jumped out a second-story window and then fought against the officers who apprehended him, Moriarty said.
No injuries were reported. Puckett, who is serving a 30-year prison sentence for aggravated assault of a public servant out of Lavaca County, had been on the run since he climbed over a fence at the Stiles prison unit in Beaumont about 6 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. He had been alone in a recreation yard before his escape. Heh. That explains it. |

So how many years will they tack on to his sentence? At least up to 20 more years for theft of the auto he used to run. I'd bet he sees every year of that. Way to make a 30 year sentence a 50 year one. |

There's a criminological belief that you can look at someone and tell what kind of criminal they would be or what kind of crime they had committed.
I firmly believe that that belief generally holds true when dealing with sex offenders. This fuckstick is no different. |

They just spent like, millions of dollars to completely camera up that whole unit. I'd bet they have at least a portion of it. More than 700 cameras are being installed at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont. Like Polunsky, cameras cover all housing areas, dining halls, gymnasiums and other places where offenders congregate, including the unit chapel. The indoor and outdoor visitation areas have multiple cameras mounted on walls and ceilings.

You know, I've got a way to stop escapes like this.
30 to 80 foot sheer walls with a slight inward slant to them. Needle sharp polished spikes embedded in the walls, starting just above hand's reach for the tallest and best jumping basketball star in the joint. Pointing in all directions, carefully engineered so that any handhold you might get on one guarantees impalement on another. Include a fully enclosed roof except for single piece reinforced monolithic polycarbonate domes placed in a few spots for lighting. Each dome weighs way too much for even four strong men to budge them under ideal conditions. Thick enough and heavy enough to defeat up to .50 caliber rifle fire. Total access control at the FEW entrances to the walled complex. Really, is that so hard? Such a construct is relatively easy to make. It doesn't have to be sophisticated, just very, very solid and damnably tough to defeat even if you had permission and the full cooperation of all present. No need for it to be very expensive, either. It's just a hell of a wall. The structures inside the wall can be of cheap construction as the cell blocks don't have to do more than provide shelter and confinement. Put all the escape security in the outer wall where it belongs. CJ |

Shoot them dead. It worked for a hundred years. |

It's the competent guards in towers that's the problem..... Though the tower officer in Polunsky blew a couple off the fence early last year. |

Texas Penal Code, section 9.52 " ... a guard employed by a correctional facility or a peace officer is justified in using any force, including deadly force, that he reasonably believes to be immediately necessary to prevent the escape of a person from the correctional facility." |

Not only are we allowed to use lethal force in that instance, we are required to. If you fail to use lethal force to prevent an escape you will be brought up on disciplinary....to the extent you might be out of a job. |
