Mac, please spend a bit more and get a mac. These days, with all the malware floating about, the average PC user doesn't stand a chance. Keep your eye out for a decent deal for the refurbs

no can do on the mac this is for work and must use windows, vpn, hippa and all that jaz. she works as a contracted med transcriptionist .

The problem with many of the <$400 laptops is that they tend to max out at 3 to 4 gig of ram, but they come with Win7-64 bit.
64 bit isn't happy running on 3 to 4 gig. My ~$550 Toshiba came with the 3 gig max when my G/F surprised me with it. Nice gesture, Tosh is OK, but the choice of win7/64 sux in this config. |

My Cousin repairs computers, he said to stay far far away from the Sony computers. Anything else Sony is GTG. |

The problem with Toshiba is they are strictly depot repair. They will not even send replacement memory modules. It's a royal pain in the ass. I never had that problem with other manufacturers.

I think they all love lots of RAM. I have two machine with the same MOBO, RAM, similar CPUs (obviously one is 64bit), but different video cards. The 32 bit machine is considerably slower. I haven't purchased any laptops in a while except my Dell Mini. I didn't realize they are coming with 64 bit Win 7 nowadays. My experience is based on all of the laptops I fix from guys at work. I always recommend RAM upgrades when feasible. This reminds me that I need to order a 4gb module for my mini.  |
