This Sunday, May 12, the CBS news program 60 Minutes will include a segment that will raise the issue of whether doctors should ask
patients about owning firearms.  Dr. Timothy Wheeler, director of Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO), is scheduled to appear.  DRGO is an organization of more that 1,300 physician-members nationwide, and the organization supports the safe, lawful use of
firearms.  Be sure to check your local listings for this Sunday`s broadcast.

Maybe a Mod can tack this until tomorrow night so eveyone can tune in.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll check it out for sure.

Good to hear that their are doctors out there willing to voice opposition about this.

Many doctors are pro gun. What kind of people do you think can afford large preban collections.

You wait and see.  They're going to use a 10 second snippet of what this guy has to say about this subject and then get into the "firearms in the home are more likely to be used........."

I'm crossing my fingers though.

Doc:  here is the prescription, I would just like to ask you one more question.

Pat:  sure doc, go ahead
Doc: do you have a gun in your home?
pat:  no I brought it with me.
doc:  but.. but-
pat:  do you want to see it?
doc:  (in horror) NO, DON'T PULL IT OUT!
pat:  why?  ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than this gun.

doc:  forget I said anything. just leave.
pat:  don't you want me to pay?  I have some precious metals, copper and lead.
doc:  no, no just go and don't come back.

You all should move to Kansas.  Most of the docs here are more likely to ask if they can come hunting with you than they are to pitch as fit about your guns in your home.  I have been hunting with several of my attendings.  One of the trauma surgeons and I usually stand around and talk guns when we are on call together.

I couldn't give a rip about whether my patients have guns or not.  I just hope that they invite me out to hunt/shoot with them.

They should talk to the ER Dr. at the hospital I used to work for.  He has a class 3 collection like you wouldn't believe.  Brownings, .50 and .30 cal variety, Uzi, Thompson, sniper rifles, and these were the one's I knew about.  He collects guns and cars.  Now he would be the one to interview.
