Her answer is not bad, but I think she side stepped the main issue......in the end, when the real S hits the real fan, how does one control the Government, if not by force?

Liberals dont like guns for one reason: if more people owned and carried firearms a bigger portion of their voter base would be 6 feet under (not that such a condition prevents them from voting at the present time).

They hate guns because they hate freedom, and gun ownership is the most overt symbol of freedom.

I don't agree with Auntie Pinko,
And regardless of the claims to infallibility by various schools of legal scholarship, America always has, and always will, adapt its interpretation of our Constitution to conform to the sensibilities of America's vast "middle majority."

I don't think that the Consitution is subject to popular intrepetation. Like which way the political wind is blowing. Otherwise how the judiciary will be in the business of making laws, which is the domain of the legislature. Unfortunately, this is not the real world. But how can you reconcile the fact that the 2nd Amend is obsolete and has no relevance in today's modern world; but television and radio is pretty much accorded the same rights and priviledges as the print media even thought TV & radio didn't exist when the Consititution was written.

Apparently, you do, in fact, believe in "popular interpretation."

The 2A affirms a right, not a knowledge of the future. It is a wise recognition of the nature of power. By that, the Founders recognized that power in the hands of individuals (firearms) stand as countervailing force, to whatever degree, against the power of government. Absolute success in defeating tyranny in government could never be guaranteed in any case - and to discard the 2A as a right because you simply can't foresee total effectiveness, hands the left its victory. And does so completely.

It's like banning all cancer treatments because their effectiveness cannot be predicted to be %100. Not too smart.

The liberals are against guns because they know e conservatives like them and they don't want us to have any fun.

You hit the nail on the head warlord, carticularly considering that most of the DU'ers are extremist Communists/Greens/Socialists.  Auntie Pinko clearly advocates a "living Constitution", and her concept of the "middle ground" is still way to the left.

I don't think Liberals dislike guns because guns are emblems of freedom, or because they see guns as a way to resist tyrranical government.  I have never heard any American leftist say anything remotely close to that.

Liberals like to think of themselves as "The good guys" the "Nice, sensible people".  If people are poor, they want to lift them out of poverty (with YOUR money).  If the environment is dirty, they want to clean it up and make rules to prevent this (again, with your money).  They think everyone has a right to a good job, and good education, and great health care (again, paid for by YOUR money).  And the only way to forcibly seperate people from their money to pay for these social programs and administer them is through government.

They think government action is the way to solve "problems".  A nutcase gunned down 12 schoolchildren with an AK-47.  "Well, why on Earth does any nice person need an AK-47?"  The liberal asks.  "It's not good for anything but killing people, and killing people is bad.  We'll outlaw them, and no one will be killed by guns ever again."

They think government action is a straightforward and effective way of solving problems.  They see government as a benign and beneficial thing, so the idea of armed resistance against an "enlightened" government that is interested in social welfare never once enters their mind.
