This beauty is from Sabah Borno and was maybe 40-50 Ringgits. This was from about 8 years ago. We rode Singapore Airlines, and I could live on that plane.

Here's one I have pics of. Soviet Cossack Sabre from the 1930's. Also have a German Imperial Artillery Sabre dated 1914 and a U.S. Model 1906 Cavalry Sabre.

Battle Sword?????
Now! This is a BATTLE SWORD!!!! 
This is a 1700s Naval Cutlass of the old school. Note the double serrated back edge. It is angled for easy entry into body parts, and will rip flesh to shredds as it is withdrawn. It can be used for sawing spars or cutting hemp to rid the ship of battle damage quickly. If you are stupid enough to face this weapon with another sword, you will not live to regret it. You will regret it immediately. This weapon has weight. If used to slash, the weight of the hilt and blade will cleave meat from bone. |

From the Nanbukucho period (1333 to 1391), and made by one of the smiths in the Kozori group from Bizen province. I don't know for sure who the specific smith is, but based on the shape, jitetsu and hamon, it's probably Morimitsu, Morihisa, Moriyuki, or Morisuke. |

It is a damn sweet blade, G10 handle and sharpened on both sides. Looks super heavy but it is actually pretty fast and easy to handle. John Gage is the maker, he will custom build one up for you I'm sure if you're interested.

Who makes a quality wakizashi/samurai sword that has good modern steel that will take a beating? I'm not going to fight with it but something that you could take camping and cut up tree limbs for fun with.

But Cold Steel makes some damn good blades for the money, out of excellent modern materials. You can get much better swords, for much more money. But a sword any cheaper will generally be a wall hanger that would shatter under any abuse. TR85. |

Matt Lamey makes a mean blade too. This one's mine. It chops through 2X12s and is basically a 22 inch long handaxe. From edge to spine it's almost 4". It's not fast, but it's short and with just a tiny bit of momentum it cuts like a light saber. I've pruned trees with it and you just "tap" where you want a cut. Much better control than a machete since you don't have to work hard to cut stuff. I had survival sheaths make me a crocodile dundee style (wear it like a backpack with the hilt down and to the right) sheath from kydex and it disappears under a 5:11 vest. |
