[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What's Up With The "Ghost" E-mails From This Site?

I recall a post earlier about this topic, but never did find out what was going on. For the last few weeks, myself and a few others have been receiving blank e-mails from other members of AR15.COM. These e-mails are large--120-130K, but there is NO text or attachments. My anti-virus has detected nothing and my computer is running fine. I just delete them and go about my business. The two I received today were from "SouthernShark" and "Woosley" (sp?). I know that these people are not e-mailing me, that it is just happening on its own. Anyone have any info on what this is?

its a virus. i dont get the point, but just avoid them as best you can

Uh, not an expert, but I'm thinking that yahoo and hotmail accounts may protect you.

I got another one today: "Hi,MichShooter69,honey"

Is there an NWillis on the board?

Yeah, I've been averaging about one a day of this crap. One of mine was "hello stevegino darling". Sending out a virus should be a capital crime. No joke.

BTW, the name of the sender is irrelevant because the virus will emulate names from other peoples address books.

So you mean these mails that I have been getting calling me darling and honey is a virus? I thought someone finally cared!

I had one today that Norton identified as KLEZ virus. It caught and quarantined it.

I got one a couple days ago supposedly from Lordtrader, who I've NEVER had any contact with(though I have envied him on occasion, lol). Was around 150K in size and titled something like "Klez Virus Removal Tools". Being the naive trusting sort that I am, I instantly deleted it without opening. [}:D]

klez virus-it snoops out e-mail address off infected computers from the temp internet files and so on-it puts a fake e-mail return address on the e-mail, but if you check it usually came from some other address. Update that virus checker. There are a bunch of posts about this over the past three weeks or so.

Oh they are probably only blank because your e-mail is catching the attached .exe files (or whatever) that spread the virus-um maybe.

I'm guilty as charged. Didn't know for 4 days as I just started a new school and have not been to the computer for a while.

Picked up some free software from www.jumbo.com.

It's a bitch to get rid of.
