its NOT millimeter wave. Those are not deployed at all. Those machines are X-RAY.

Those who laughed at you didn't mind getting zapped. Guess who's smart and who's dumb?

I don't know exactly what type of tech they're using, the sign says mm wave, but I just see that it spins around you to scan. I don't want any type of radiation being focused on my skin/body, especially X-Rays unless it is a medical procedure.
I am flying only because it is TDY and is part of my job. I am contemplating driving the next time as long as it is within 10-12 hours. Yeah, I was wondering about those people that were laughing - was it smarter to get zapped and succumb to a stupid senseless security policy? I balked when they prevented our family from seeing us off at the gate, then they made us take our shoes off. I guess it is somehow funny to them that we're being encouraged/forced to get a full body X-ray before each flight. |

wow they were using the MM machine (spinning type), first Ive heard of it being used outside of testing.

They were making everyone go through it and they shut down all the other machines and metal detectors. |

I figured you were alluding to that. I'm surprised they got one for each line. I think there's one per gate at LAS.

I've been traveling the last three weeks. During that time I've had 2 xrays, 1 mmw, and 3 metal detector (magnetometer?).
My thought is that since the mob has gone back to sleep, the tsa will work hard on upgrading the whole system to xray/mmw only and ditch the old stuff asap. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Here's my opt out story: DTW airport (Detroit Metro), usually they have 3-4 lanes running simultaneously. Today, for some odd reason they had only 1 lane open. At first, they had 2 metal detectors then they shut them down after playing around with them. As a result, they forced EVERYONE to go through the millimeter wave full body scanner. As far as I can tell, I was the only one to opt out within that window of 15-30 minutes. They took their sweet time to get to me though. I had to go to a separate lane while everyone else got scanned (100% rate). I asked the guy to wear a new pair of gloves and they were not happy campers. He told me to get my things and stand in front of everyone to get patted down. I wasn't in a hurry and stayed neutral/calm throughout the process. If you didn't have a lack of faith in our homeland security, you will once you encounter the TSA.I even heard other passengers pointing at me and laughing as they walked by during the pat down. ETA: MS PAINT! http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k395/fusionvic/DTW.jpg Only one access point was open, but they let us put our stuff through the X-Ray machines in two rows. Did you know that 1 out of 30-50 people who PASS the scanners have to get a full body patdown? |

And, since L-3 doesn't even list the ProVision scanner on their website it is hard to verify what freq it runs at. |

I think it seems rather convenient the FDA trials, safety testing, and other important specifications aren't readily available as they are manufactured by major Defense contractors and deployed rapidly by DHS/TSA.

I searched their product listing for ProVision and MMW and didn't see anything. So, since you are so good at finding things, could you point out where L-3 says what frequency the scanner operates at? |

I opted out once. Pretty much the same thing happened. I spent a few minutes waiting and frankly the TSA agents seemed
to be a bit unprepared for someone actually opting out. I had another trip to take just over a week ago. This time, metal detector and no problems. Due to time constraints I'd decided that taking the scanner would have been OK if it had been my choice. I just didn't have enough time left to board the plane for me to take the risk. CJ |

It looks like my suspicions are correct, TSA wasn't telling the truth about the radiation:

I recall a time when the Germans laughed at their Jewish citizens while being prodded and beaten.
