Boulder, CO has again been ranked as one of the best places in the U.S. to live, this time as a great place to retire.

Any of you guys from the other towns recognized?

Ha!

Boulder? Puhleeeeze...

The liberal, bunny-hugger, People's Republic pesthole?

With housing prices through the roof, and more commies than Red China, Boulder is the LEAST desirable place, IMO.

NO personal freedoms are allowed to impinge on their perfect little socialist utopia. That is, unless you are a bearded transvestite, suing an ice cream parlor to be allowed to wear skirts while working behind the counter. Every bizarre perversion is embraced there, while everything normal is scoffed at.

It is geared towards spoiled rich brat university students, and has an exceptionally arrogant "more hippied-out than thou" attitude that has only grown worse over the years. Boulder is the Kalifornia disease transplanted to the foothills. It is a town of victims, waiting for the govt. to keep them safe.

Damned bike-riding, non-smoking, tofu-eating, anti-gunner freaks!

Boulder is the laughing stock of Colorado.

Poor Hannah!  Sorry about getting you so upset.
I think that your arguments against the town are less than credible, despite your residence in the state.
Other references to support the "Money" magazine claim that show the appeal from a variety of sources:

"Best Places" Forbes
"America's 10 Fittest Cities" Health
"Best Place to be an Uberjock" Outdoor
"The Best Places to Live" Money 1999
"Best Mid-Sized City" Money 1998
"The West's Best Cities" Sunset
"Best of the High Country" Mountain Living
"The 50 Most Alive Places to Live" Modern Maturity
"The Fittest Cities in America" Shape
"10 Healthiest Places for Women to Live" Self

I'm sure that there are dozens of other awards.

Best places to live in the U.S. articles... I'd say ads because that's what they, are just realestate marketing ploys to drive up property values.  Check prices back one year, now, and then again in six months and you'll see what I mean.

Left Hand Canyon is just a couple of minutes west of Broadway.  I'm up there quite often, and, yes, I do pick up after myself.

Nice try, though, Crow.

You are correct sir.
The fix is in and it is called Quid Pro Quo. Who arranged the article? Let's see... could it be real-estate agents and  retirement property developers?

Actually, Goad, the link is to the "Money Magazine" article.  I'm not entirely sure, but my memory is that "Money" is not a "Leftist" periodical.
I don't know what "to ridickle senseless Leftists?" means, I guess, and I've been trying to determine if this is a typo or some kind of internet shorthand/jargon that I'm not familiar with, so I guess that I don't understand the comment.
Maybe Goad knows something about a conspiracy behind this article?  Who is the beneficiary that provides something in return for the praise?
[With reference to your Latin, it is yet to be seen if the city of Boulder will name "Money" as one of the best magazines to read when retired or considering retirement]

Boulder, Colorado City Council Votes to Replace
Animal "Owner" Designation With "Guardian."

Boulder, CO...In a bold and progressive move on behalf of animals, the Boulder City Council voted 8-1 to accept a proposal to change the city's municipal code to refer to people as the guardian of their companion animals instead of as their "owners."

Erasing the category of "owner" does not change a person's legal rights, responsibilities and liabilities to their companion animals, and animals will still be deemed property. However, by codifying the concept of animal guardianship, the City Council is recognizing that companion animals should be included in our social ethic for reasons beyond their monetary worth as commodities.

"The Boulder City Council should be commended for their foresight and conviction of recognizing companion animals, not as mere objects to be bought, sold and discarded at their 'owner's' whim, but as individuals with needs and interests of their own, " said Elliot Katz, DVM, president of In Defense of Animals (IDA). "This was definitely a complete community effort and the City Council recognized that there was a big base of support from the local newspaper, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, university professors and many citizens. Boulder is truly on the cutting edge in terms of evolving our social ethic to include all beings, both human and non-human alike. Hopefully, other communities will follow Boulder's progressive lead and add the category of animal guardian to their municipal codes."

Other communities and cities have begun the process to codify the category of animal guardian. In San Francisco and Marin County, CA, the Commission of Animal Care and Control have recommended that the Board of Supervisors add the category of guardian and the Berkeley, CA Humane Commission will discuss the issue next week.

"The word 'guardian' denotes a higher level of responsibility towards another being," said Jan McHugh, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. "Although it is a simple language change that does not alter the legal status of animals as property, we hope that the increased awareness of the 'guardian' language will elevate the status of animals in our community. We will use the word 'guardian' as another tool to fight animal abuse and exploitation."

"I am so proud of Boulder's City Council," said Rita Anderson, the local citizen who introduced the proposal and was instrumental in gaining community support. "I am absolutely convinced that this is a positive step for the both the people and animals of Boulder, and I would really like to thank everyone involved for having the conviction and courage to stand together on behalf of the animals." -End-

NOW HOW GAY IS THAT?!?!?! http://aan.enviroweb.org/goodnews.html Just close your eyes and hope it goes away.

I think everyone should retire or move to Boulder, CO.

I would like to add that Mississippi is one of the worst.
Filled with racists, bigots, and uneducated idiots.
Finishes bottom on every single indicator where states are compared.
It is hot, muggy, and full of mosquitos.
Now with the Casinos, organized crime is rampant.
The state is full of gun toting, Camaro driving, Confederate flag waving dixie whistlers.
I have only scratched the surface, it is BAD!
Much worse that I could ever describe.
Please stay away from Mississippi.
Do it for the children.

We moved out of Boulder about 2 years ago.  Good riddance.  Real estate prices are outrageous.  Traffic has gotten horrendous.  Always a bunch of kooks on the City Council.  City is going down the tubes, too.  The only major shopping mall in town is almost a ghost mall.  Very few businesses in it, mostly empty.

Oh, yes, a real elitist Rifle Club, too.  Membership cap of 500, despite 2 complete ranges.  About 400 on the waiting list.  If I added my name to the list today I might possibly be admitted in 10 years.  I drive by the north range quite a bit and seldom see anyone there. [pissed]

I have watched Boulder for 35 years now.
It *used* to be a super little town... a place where brilliant intellectuals mingled in a somewhat Wild West mountain town atmosphere.
It had all the brain power of say, MIT or Berkeley, but with a strong sense of American freedoms and values with a defiant individualist streak.
I even worked there for a decade or so.
The fact that Paladin Press still has their main offices there is somewhat of an anachronism, and a pale shadow of what Boulder used to be like. I mourn for it's demise, while being infuriated at it's hijacking.
In the last 20 years, something awful has happened there.
The 60s generation grew to middle age and decided to build the "hippie paradise". Folks that believe that only govt. can keep them safe, and that more laws are the answer to everything, are in charge. People on $2,000 mountain bikes whine that smoking outdoors "poisons our air!" Dread locked white youths beg on the Pearl Street Mall, as there is enough collective yuppie guilt there to ensure that they will never have to work again.
You are now a "guardian" of your pet.
The guy with the beard and the women's clothing sells you your ice cream, his "lifestyle" protected by court order.
It is so silly, it is beyond pathetic, and has actually become entertaining.
There is a de rigeur liberal mindset, to the point that the name of the town has become synonymous with all forms of moronic leftism.
"How Boulder!" is the expression used here in Colorado to express contempt whenever another  hare brained socialist enviro-moron tactic is exposed.
If you actually feel that this has somehow made you "healthier, wealthier, and wiser", then it is truly too late for you. Did they put mind control drugs in your water, or something?
And Left Hand Canyon, isn't that the place some idiot shot off his thumb not long ago? Was it you?

why do you people keep calling leftists liberals? If they are passing more mundane laws, then what are they liberating?

I could personally care less if a chick wants to grow a beard and dress as a man. hell its her life, but as far as court ordered protection (if such a thing exists) is wrong. Everyone should recieve equal protection under the law. No body should have more rights then another.

When i visited Montana and Wyoming i noticed that there is a difference between extreme activists and hippies.

Like Native American motifs. There are many people who adopt the image only to appear cool and dont understand the significance. A friend of mine was jealous because im part Cherokee. WTF???? just to be cool? hell, i dont even look cherokee. you'd have to go farther back in the family tree for that.

This is a problem with the Buffalo in Wyoming. I met the guy who drives around Yellowstone park in the "Buffalo" van, very funny guy who invited me to ride around in the van. I was short on time, but should have done it for attention. Alot of the problem with actually helping the Buffalo is the "activists". Throwing buckets of blood and guts gets you attention, but doesn't solve problems. The Ranchers and the Conservationists could do much better without the wacky activists derailing the efforts of people who can actually make a positive change that would help everyone-including the Buffalo.

Personally most hippie's that i have met have been very chill and laid back. In my observation most hippie's dont trust government, why would they support more mundane laws that increase the size of government? Perhaps there is more of a distinction between a hippie and a marxist.

Here’s the kind of arguments that I’ve seen so far:
Expensive, healthy, spoiled, rich, university students, bike-riding, non-smoking, feel good, superior, self important. . .
(A bizarre comparison to a lost nation.)  Strange that a U.S. city is compared to East Germany.  From where do this guys thoughts come?  Yes, a stong and effective economy nonetheless.
Expensive (again)  kooky (lol, just a matter of judgement, who is calling names now?)  Elitist, brilliant, with a strong sense of American freedoms and values with a defiant individualist streak, home of Paladin Press (this may appeal to some of you!?)   Paradise. . .

I mentioned this article because it highlights our strengths.  I've seen nothing but arguments.  I feel that I among people who mock a champion who has taken a trophy in a ring into which no one else dares to step.  Yes, mock the strength, yes, feel free to criticize the criteria, go on, discredit the authority, but why not offer a worthy argument?

I have pride!
I have something to feel proud of!

No congratulations, no commendations, no efforts to emulate what is considered the best (even if you only wanna make your real estate worth more $).  I've seen no offers of a place that compares, just jeers.  I think that the response is borne of jealousy.

Why not be prideful of being better?  Why not feel a local sense of patriotism?  Why not support one's hometown?  One's surroundings?

I asked if anyone else lived in a place that was recognized.  No one else seems to be.  One contributor offered a list of the flaws and faults of his state.  Pathetic.

I think that the sense of elitism comes from a sense of true superiority.  It has been reinforced once again.  Another trophy for the case.  I laugh at the group of losers who stand around the showcase and mock the dust that accumulates on the plaques that have been awarded for so many years.

If you can't afford to come here, then stay away.  Property values increase as demand increases.  Communist?

I guess that I'm still sitting here smiling, after reading your responses, and showing them to some of my buddies and friends!

Why the need to criticize an American town that has been recognized as a great place to be?  Why feel that you must chime in with something negative about a small city in your nation that has so much to offer?  Why so much negativity about our leadership?

What have you got to offer except for your destructive remarks about our town?
