Still have one of those big sony wega crt's, still waiting for it to blow up so I can get a nice new super thin TV.
First thing that gets plugged into it is a computer. |

I didn't wire for a whole house protector.
But for plug in the wall............ Brickwall cry once............I'm running my flat screen, surround, DVR and players through this and haven't lost any of them in over 8 yrs. Your typical MOV based suppressor will last about 3 months before its shot and you will not even know it. Then its just an expensive power strip. This thing rocks, but you pay for it. ETA: Or just stick with the AR for physical protection. This only fixes the power!

I use the Panamax M5400s in every AV distribution rack that I build. Panamax Max in walls to tie display power back to the rack wherever possible or Panamax surge outlets if I cannot wire back to the distro rack. Have not lost any displays or connected gear to power surges. Did have an M5400 sacrifice itself a couple of years ago, it did what it was supposed to do, none of the connected equipment (about $80,000 worth) was damaged. Panamax happily replaced it for us. ETA: I did install UPSes when I worked for my last employer. IMO, they caused more trouble then they were worth (constant resets, battery replacements and some other issues). |

Panamax 5400-pm, works fine for me. I had a neighbor swear by PS Audio stuff, but he was impressed with the Panamax.

What about for an in wall solution that is recessed?
I just picked up a Samsung PN63C8000 that I'm going to wall mount. The rest of the AV equipment will (as planned right now) be placed in a hall closet. I'd like to do this for a clean look and to avoid another piece of furniture on the floor to house everything. I'll run an IR pickup in the wall and feed it to the closet for remotes, but power protection for the TV is of concern. The plug on the Samsung is quiet large and it doesn't look like anything Panamax has will work. |

battery backup's don't provide anymore protection than a standard surge protector. They tun AC until power fails and then they switch to battery faster than the device can power down.
also some devices may actually have issues with battery devices than can cause damage. DVR / gaming systems in particular can suffer issues. |
