So a friend let me know a guy was trying to sell a 1898 Krag.  I went to check it out.  It has a chip in the stock near the chamber, but it is otherwise in great condition.  Bluing has browned.  Rifling is perfect.  Functions well.  Great cartouche.  Never sporterized.  It came with the cleaning kit, too.  Serial in the 100k range.  I paid $400.

So how'd I do?

To be honest, I have no idea where my camera is, but I'll go look for it now.

ETA: Found my camera, but the battery is dead.  I'll post pics after it's charged.

That bolt is like butter!

I have my Great granddad's Kraig.  Beat to hell, but it still shoots well.

This "popular Army marching song" was printed in my 7th grade history book-

One of my best friends is Filipino, and we had a good time singing to him.  Because of this, the Krag will always have a place in my heart.

Could you post pics of how you load it?  I've always been puzzled at how the swing open loading gate worked.

Does tha action feel really smooth like it's lubricated with warm butter? Yes? It's worn out beyond repair. Send it to me.

That's a damn nice Krag for $400.  You did good.  Envious here, much.

Shit is rare! It's always a seasonal offering, and I don't know when the season is. My brother-in-law has one, and it's his favorite, so I got some dies and reloaded all the spent casings he had (56). You can find brass on gunbroker, but that's about it.
