So in a couple months I am planning on going to vegas for a defensive handgun class at frontsite.  I would like to stay at one of the hotel/casinos in vegas for the week of this class.  My question is has anybody stayed at a place like this in vegas with there handgun and ammo?  How do the hotel/casinos feel about people taking firearms courses and staying in their hotel with firearms.  I am planning on keeping the handguns in a bag concealed and not loaded.  Is it possible to just enter the hotels and bypass the casino parts?

btw the hotel I am planning on staying at is the hooters hotel and casino.

I would at least call and check prior to going in.  Hate to see some sort of mandatory minimum sentence charge for carrying in. . .

You don't have to ID yourself when you call - just sayin'.

Guess it will depend on how the hotel/casino is laid out as to if you will enter the casino to enter the hotel. How are they going to know what you are there for unless you tell them? Concealed is concealed.

There's no "security" getting into a hotel or casino in Vegas.

They generally frown on carrying, but it isn't illegal.

Don't invite any girls back to your room.

I wouldnt even be carrying in the hotel/casino.  The firearm would be in a suitcase or bag, however I dont want to be breaking any state or federal laws by transporting a firearm into a casino or something.  Just in case for whatever dumb stupid murphys law reason it was found out I had a firearm in my baggage.

Having been to front sight three tomes I WOULD NOT recommend staying I'm Vegas for the class. It is about an hour drive. Your day at FS is a long day you will truly regret having to get up extra early and get back extra late. I would suggest the best western I'm pahrump. They are very FS friendly and you will see dozens of open carry at the good free breakfast buffet before taking the 20 minute drive to front sight.

If you want to go to the clubs and casinos in Vegas, plan a trip for that. Extend your stay for that but don't try to do too much all at once or it all will suffer.

There is no law against having a gun in a casino.  You can take them up to your room or just lock them in the trunk of your car.

A buddy and I stayed at Luxor while attending front sight.   We took them to our room when we didn't plan leaving the room and left them in the car when we planned on going out.

BTW, Nevada is a free state.

Pahrump is 30 minutes from Front Sight. Vegas is 60 minutes from Front Sight. Commuting from Vegas to Front Sight sucks. You have to be on the firing line early.

Best to stay at one of the Front Sight recommended hotels in Pahrump. I stay at The Saddle West and they are weapons friendly. The rooms are big and the buffet is good.

They usually put the Front Sighters in the building in the back, which has very easy access to your car so you don't have to schlep weapons from a distant parking structure and then navigate through lobbies and up elevators like you would have to do at a hotel in Vegas.

Er, don't make an issue of it?

Lock the firearms in the room's safe? If it's a nice hotel in Vegas, it must have a safe.  Hell, the Hampton Inn in downtown STL I stayed in had a safe.  I think even the cheap Baymont Inn in Whitewater, WI(last hotel I stayed in) had a safe.

Why dont you stay at a hotel in pahrump? It is much closer to FS and they dont care if you have guns in your room..

We stayed at this one and it was not too bad..

This

I attend FS at least 2x a year and have noticed when talking to folks at the beginning of the course some will admit to staying in Vegas.

By day 3 they are either late or have switched hotels to stay in Pahrump.

This is the NRS concerning prohibited carry. You can carry in casinos, banks, Wal-Mart etc. even if "NO FIREARMS" signs are posted. The catch is if caught and they ask you to leave you must comply, if you don't you can be cited for trespass. Additionally Nevada is an open carry state. I wouldn't recommend it in Vegas but it can be done.

NRS 202.3673  Permittee authorized to carry concealed firearm while on premises of public building; exceptions; penalty.

     1.  Except as otherwise provided in subsections 2 and 3, a permittee may carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of any public building.

     2.  A permittee shall not carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of a public building that is located on the property of a public airport.

     3.  A permittee shall not carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of:

     (a) A public building that is located on the property of a public school or a child care facility or the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education, unless the permittee has obtained written permission to carry a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of the public building pursuant to subparagraph (3) of paragraph (a) of subsection 3 of NRS 202.265.

     (b) A public building that has a metal detector at each public entrance or a sign posted at each public entrance indicating that no firearms are allowed in the building, unless the permittee is not prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of the public building pursuant to subsection 4.

     4.  The provisions of paragraph (b) of subsection 3 do not prohibit:

     (a) A permittee who is a judge from carrying a concealed firearm in the courthouse or courtroom in which the judge presides or from authorizing a permittee to carry a concealed firearm while in the courtroom of the judge and while traveling to and from the courtroom of the judge.

     (b) A permittee who is a prosecuting attorney of an agency or political subdivision of the United States or of this State from carrying a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of a public building.

     (c) A permittee who is employed in the public building from carrying a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of the public building.

     (d) A permittee from carrying a concealed firearm while he or she is on the premises of the public building if the permittee has received written permission from the person in control of the public building to carry a concealed firearm while the permittee is on the premises of the public building.

     5.  A person who violates subsection 2 or 3 is guilty of a misdemeanor.

     6.  As used in this section:

     (a) “Child care facility” has the meaning ascribed to it in paragraph (a) of subsection 5 of NRS 202.265.

     (b) “Public building” means any building or office space occupied by:

           (1) Any component of the Nevada System of Higher Education and used for any purpose related to the System; or

           (2) The Federal Government, the State of Nevada or any county, city, school district or other political subdivision of the State of Nevada and used for any public purpose.

Ê If only part of the building is occupied by an entity described in this subsection, the term means only that portion of the building which is so occupied.

My mom, sister and I are former Girl Scout leaders(co leader in my case.)  The camp we have our annual leader's weekend(which my family helps out with) is in East Troy and Whitewater is the closest option for those of us that don't want to stay on camp.  Though, we'll go to the Hampton Inn in Elkhorn next year.

If you're relying on a hotel safe, don't, unless you have called ahead for dimensions.  Most have moved to pitiful little safe deposit boxes suitable for not much of anything except jewelry.  I couldn't even store the documents I needed to at one hotel.

I've done the Vegas/Frontsight thing.  I just put the handgun in my backpack and bring it up to the room, and keep it locked in the room safe.  Not sure how I would do it with a rifle though, kinda suspicious bringing a blackhawk AR15 bag into the hotel.

The ride from Vegas does suck especially on their nightfire day, but is doable.  I buy breakfast/lunch stuff from the market and leave it in the fridge.  In the evenings, I have time to eat dinner and watch a early show or do a little gambling.

I stayed in Vegas once. Ever since then, it's been Saddle West for me. I love being able to sleep 45 minutes longer in the morning and not have a long drive after a tiring day.

Even when my brother lived in Vegas, I just drove back over the hill to visit him after class then back to Pahrump. One winter class I was in, the pass got closed. Students and instructors not in the valley were very late from driving another way around.

well, sounds like it will just be better to stay in purumpf.  I had never been to vegas before and wanted to check it out, but I think I will just plan on seeing the town after the class is over.  Sounds like staying in vegas is kind of a pain in the ass.

We did the 4 day rifle class at front sight and stayed at the saddle west for all 4 days. On the last day we drove into vegas and stayed at the bellagio for two nights. What we did was lock our guns up in hard cases and check them at the front desk. They took them and locked them up in their hotels secure area and gave us claim tickets. When we were ready to check out we gave them the tickets and we got our rifles back..
