being fairly new here, but an old tymer on BBs, the general topic is & shud be about any damn thyng someone wants to get off their chest/mind !!
"vanity" posts....!! if this to mean in the same vein as "vain" then..., why not ?? i happen to thynk some are very funny & some just point out what utter fools that person may be...... i also happen to notice there are a lot of gun related topics here..., why ????? there is a specific forum for gun related topics, no one seems to be concerned about keeping gun stuff where it belongs. "vanity"....! or BS has its place & shud be allowed on the General Forum only...... just my 2 cents............. |

I voted -like everyone else so far - for the general forum, nothing is off topic.
However, "nothing is off topic" doesn't mean "therefore, anything is appropriate". There's plenty of topic specific forums if that's what people want. There should be a forum for discussions about Israel, high-maintenance women, school skirt-lifting, and stuff like that. What gets a little tiresome is the personal flaming and trolling that sometimes hijacks a thread. But the fact that that goes on is no reason to change the way General Discussion currently is. It would be nice if people would move the personal pissing matches to e-mail, though. (Steyr and Anti, estoner and Spectre, Blaze of Glory and everyone, etc). Sorry, got a little sidetracked there. [mini-rant off] |

This is a pretty cool site. Lots of variety and traffic. That's why I visit.
I'm not sure if a "no-holds barred" forum with no mods or rules would be a good thing. I've been to a couple like that and it's kind of pointless. Having rules makes it fun when you know there is a "line" you can step over, if you dare to. |

I'm not sure if it is just about unfairly dealing with SteyrAug; it seems that all non-paying members are held to higher scrutiny when it comes to 'wasting bandwidth,' or having a thread locked. There is most certainly a clear double standard between 'payers' and 'non-payers.' (DUH)
Of course, this sort of caste system is to be expected, and I could really give half a shit if one or two of my posts gets locked by some overzealous bitch or bastard. It really isn't crucial to me, and it shouldn't ruin your day, SteyrAug. Such uneven application of the rules is an incentive to pay-up, for some, but may have just the opposite effect on others. ^My no-BS .02, no need to start a clamjamfry over it. |

Um, this is tough to put into words, but I'll do my best. It costs money to provide bandwidth. I have very little understanding of this, but I know it costs a tiny bit for every word we post. Some see fit, and are financially able, to help pay the freight and some don't/are not able. Some are constantly involved in disruption and arguing, and are occasionally helpful to others, while most are usually helpful and occasionally get in a spat. A good and recent example is my buddy Eric The Hun. He is 99% of the time very polite, helpful and friendly. Earlier today he referred to someone as a "weasel." There was a bit of an uproar over the audacity of an unpaid, volunteer Moderator to lower himself to this "outrageous behavior" while participating in a discussion. His "normal" or "average" demeanor be damned, hang him for one lapse. A few others routinely are abrasive and could be called "troublemakers" as a matter of course, and only occasionally manage to be productive. This forum is for General Discussion, but, as mentioned rather brilliantly by Eswanson, not any damned thing is appropriate to bring up and post. If the only topics/threads started by an individual are perceived as contentious and of little intrinsic value to the general welfare, then they waste bandwidth, even if they can loosely be called "General Discussion." For me, a member's "average" level of participation and contribution are what matter. If one's average is pissy/whiney/argumentative/mean/silly/foolish/stupid then I actively avoid and ignore that person. I would not want them banned, but I choose to ignore their posts and threads. All in all, those of us who gobble up bandwidth with large numbers of posts should, IMO, pony up the sixty bucks, if financially able to do so. The Avila's spend big bucks to provide this place. They are NOT making money, let alone "getting rich." We talk about being a "family" and "team," but they should not have to bear the financial burden forever. I wouldn't. |

After several emails sent in an effort to find out what antis problem is he finally confided he thinks "I'm an asshole."
He said he always HAS disliked me. When I asked what I did specifically to piss him off, he would not elaborate. So lesson learned is... When you contact antiUSSA by email to work things out he will call you an asshole. When he claims to have "worked things out" as he has stated in the past, he is lying. He still thinks you are an asshole. RESULT: I consider antiUSSA an asshole and will treat him accordingly. No Respect. He can either avoid ME as I have avoided him lately OR he can continue to pursue this matter. |

What's the point in suppressing uncivilized posts, if and when they are contained in the anything-goes forum? No one would ever make you read this forum, you could pretend that it doesn't exist. what isn't nice, particularly for me and i'm sure it chaps their hide too, is when a bunch of newbies come crashing around here like a bull in a china shop and start demanding that certain things be changed for [b]their[/b] enjoyment and preferences. hell no!!! Actually, what I posted in the Pantyhose thread is that it was just a stupid bandwith wasting thread... SA took it to a different level by putting words in my mouth and making accusations!
Did I post his pathetic emails here..? Nope, but he saw fit to drag it out! Furthermore, if he actually thinks the BRC is a business venture, then he is a patheticly sorry excuse for an individual.
