I heard about this bill on the local radio show today, is supposedly just passed the California Assembly. According to the Radio host, if this bill passes it will lead to a increase on gas tax.

The bill's purpose is to reduse green house effect by specifically targeting SUV vehicles....mainly thru increasing gas tax of 50(.02x25mpg ave) cents a gallon!!

I read the bill but couldn't really understand it.  Here is a link to the local radio show were listeners can email about it.http://www.webforums.com/forums/f-read/msa22.343.html

I like this guys response:
[b]Tom Re:Anti-SUV Bill First some logic- I have 8 people in my family. My Excursion (wish I could of got something bigger) gets 10 -13 MPG that is the equivalent of a 4 person car getting 20-26 MPG. Or you would have to take two cars every where one goes - that should help with our congested roads. Alterative solution to reducing CO2 levels- get rid of politicians, environmental wackos and the liberal socialists. Unfortunately this will require the use of some LEAD.

When will this sh!t end?? Or is this Kevin guy correct about the use of lead being the only true recourse??  I know I am getting really tired of it.

Paul, don't try to apply reason to bad legislation.  It will just drive you crazy.

Just shows the level of stupidity of politicians.  Instead of fixing the problem, ie, a 5.0l engine getting 50mi/gal, they just collect more taxes, to be placed in the big state tax bucket.

Good example is the wilderness permit $5 parking  charge.  The money in no way benefits the forests, but is placed in the giant tax bucket to be spent on non-related programs.

The stupidity will never end.

Since 1987, I've been paying an additional "heavy weight" tax on my Nissan mini-truck, which weighs less than a stickin' Toyota Camry. Where is the logic in that one?

Well the powers that be here, reluctantly (not because the worthless governor wanted it) will be putting a vote to the people of an increase of 9 cents per gallon to the gas tax and 12 cents for diesel.

What he fails to mention is that he also could have got an 8 person minivan that gets 24+ MPG. I certainly have no tolerance for a government that tries to force people into vehicles they don't want, but I also have no sympathy for someone who insists on using 6500 pounds of steel to haul his 180 pound ass around — all the while regretting that he can't buy something even bigger and heavier.

OMG... The Adventure Pass...

I remember some pleasant conversation I’ve had with those people they stick in those booths out in the middle of nowhere .

Dam it took nearly 5 minutes to tell that person that I was just dropping off my dad and my brother for a hick… geez these people suck.

What have we gotten out of the Adventure Pass Program?  Well they slapped a “bought with adventure pass funds” sticker on the portable restroom that was already there at the ranger station at Sage Hill – maybe Adventure pass funds pay for the toilet paper [>:/]

Btw: weren’t they suppose to get rid of that thing?

This bill has nothing to do with SMOG and everything to do with taxes.  To a politician, taxes are like crack, and they are addicted.  They can never get enough tax, and will never OD.

Expect more stupid bills that involve taxes, as PRK is facing a major budget shortfall - thanks to stupid politicians & their screwing up our power situation in accordance with PG&E's lobbying.

Maybe we should support any bill that will get many Democrat voters pissed off at the present administration. It's going to get worse before it gets better, might as well speed things up a little.
