Just wanted to have this up today to get your feedback on how fast the site is.
If you check the state of the site post in the News Forum, you'll see that we've got a LOT of work going on to help increase speed and better utilize bandwidth usage. All items pointing to a much faster visit. There's still a number of things we need to accomplish with the servers and network, so keep that in mind! We'll try to put up warning/notices when we're going to have down time for work. (If any, and most of it should be short!) Thanks! |
|
Great improvement. Don't have to wait 5 seconds to get into a forum anymore. I think tonight will be a better gauge though, during peak time, but so far..so good!
|
|
I'm usually connected at 45333, and now don't have time to bother bringing up Solitaire while waiting for pages to load. It seems the best ever to me. Thanks for everything!!
Edited to ask: Aren't you going to make the background white this time? [:D] |
|
Like White Castle burgers through my digestive tract...Pretty Damn Quick![puke]

|
I would say Moderate to fast.. I am sure that any slowness is due to my PROvider.

The pages come up about the same speed (fast), but the load time of the pages seems to be even better.
But it might be psychological... [whacko] Viper Out |

Quit trying to score points guys if anything the site is SLOWER!!!!!!!!
Just kidding GB!! [:D] It's much improved, just gotta see she how handles about 9-10pm EST tonight. |
|
I noticed the site was starting to pick up traffic in the past 20 minutes or so... the peak times are around lunch and then early evening through the night.
We have to still move things around on the network to finalize the move, so there are a few things left to do, but either way things should be better. We'll keep an eye on it all day and night and once we complete the network it should be another increase. |

Dial-up at home w/ Net-Zero, quicker than the excess slow you had, but still has "lag time" between going forward to something or back.
Currently at work (7:30am-5pm EST) and on some sort of cable with Toyota/reynold-Reynolds, and it is slow, sometimes I think home is quicker, but have a number of terminals here at the dealership. |
|
Before today I noticed the site always got REALLY slow during the early evening. Like maybe everyone had just got home from work and fired up the ole browser. I think that's when the acid test will occur.

It's SMOKIN fast, but that could also be partially attributed to my system...

[;D] The site is running pretty quick right now. This evening will be the big test: It's been crawling the past few months after sunset. Edited to add that at 5:45 PM, things are still zipping along nicely. The past few months, things were crawling about this time of day, even with wireless internet. It fluctuates for me. Sometimes very fast, sometimes VERY slow.
|
|
Change kicked in this morning, so judge only today versus the past.
Keep in mind that we've got some more things to adjust which should also help speed and BW usage. (Will happen during the course of the week!) ]=) |
|
The site is running very well. Thanks for your hard work, GoatBoy.

|
Up to par on the download/opening speed here. Cable modem works like it should, now.

We didnt get to moving servers around tonight and will try to do so this week, so there will be more speed increases as we clean up the servers and upgrade a few of them here and there.
Overall how is she doing tonight? ]=) |

Slowing down a bit from this afternoon. That's normal, as people come on-line. It was fast this past aft!
Altogether, much faster than in the recent past. Hmmmm... How about that? 5k posts. |
|
Doesn't appear much faster than before... Then again, this is probably getting to be the busy time. This doesn't feel like 2x the bandwidth. Then again 2x 56k isn't fast. lol. j/k.

View Quote This is my story also. 9-10pm will be another crucial time period, I usually have time to put 1k of ammo on stripper clips while waiting on a post to open then. [;)] |

sucks big time.
it took over 8 min for this reply page to open. mike |
|
The speed is awesome! Keep it like this and I'm a happy shooter!
|
|
To me, it is slower than usual. But, my download speeds have varied between 738 bytes to 7.8kbytes, in just the last hour or so.
Whatever, thanks for all your good efforts. |

Again, a few more changes to better utilize resources AND BW will be coming in the next few days to help the peak times.
Overall right now it looks better than it has the past month. I look for it to improve more this week. This is DOUBLE the BW, but right now much of the slowdown is on the part of a half configured network. I wouldn't expect the end all be all, but it should have MUCH better response right now. Also, the new site work that's being done is also in an effort to better utilize the BW. BTW - Modem users probably wont see much improvement as your load times are based more on size and time to DL. This will be helped with the new site work, but not by an increased BW. After all 3k/sec is 3k/sec. [=D] |
|
Couldn't prove it's any faster by me. But then I'm using 56k dial up modem in a 30 year old house in a area with 50 year old phone lines so I'm probably not a good barometer for performance.

Seems a little better - I know you will get the kinks worked out.
Still a hell of a lot better than the servers at the hospital where I work - I think they are made up of tinker-toys. Tyler |

I dont find it to much faster if any. During the morning, it is very snappy (as it always was) Mid afternoon from work it is average speed... feels about the same....
And this evening from home, it is pretty slow. Took about 20 seconds for the screen to come up on this post from the time I hit "reply" That's bad. Very bad. Not conducive to posting at all. I will say, it is not as bad as some days when you had to play solitare waiting for each page to load.... but still not anywhere near as snappy as many of the other boards I visit. Good that it is moving forward.... have you considered ending pic hosting and such.... we could still link in from other pic hosts, and that would not affect your bandwidth so much. Pic hosting is not what I come here for.... information and communication is. Fast and lightweight front end to the info is what I am after! Good work so far tho... I know it's tough.... Edited to add: I have 768k DSL. Still looks like a staturation/latency issue... Goatboy, for me it's cooking right along. 56k modem from home, usually it's almost too slow to post anything - it takes long enough just to load a page. It's cruising along tonight though.
Mucho Gracias! |
