Beam's OK - dunno about your specific batch - and is fine w/7 or Coke. I like Beam better than JD - JD's just too rough for me (flavorwise; it's only 80ish proof). But Wild Turkey is smooth, esp. the 101 proof. Try that. If you're drinking a lot of Turkey, the 101 results in less hangover since it apparently has fewer irritating distillation byproducts. For "higher-end" stuff, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, Blanton's are all good but a tad pricey (well, Maker's Mark isn't that bad, just a tad more $ than Turkey). My current favorite in midrange whiskey is George Dickel's No. 8. Smooooooooooooth! Made me a proud member of the "George Dickel Water Conservation Society". I fall down corrected. I have had plenty of booze that wasn't good for me, but I've yet to have any booze that I didn't like!
Check the tax stamps and proofs, guys. Bootleg poison is another matter entirely! |

this stuff is actually bitter. I like JD and Gentleman jack. Also a really BIg Crown fan. CR is one of the few things good to come from Canada. [:D]

Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage is good stuff. I prefer the 1991 to the 1992 Vintage, but they are both pretty good. Sadly, I haven't tried the earlier vintages
Blanton's is the best, period. Maker's Mark is like most heavily wheated bourbons, it's "ok." For $20 a bottle, "ok" just don't cut it in my opinion. Knob Creek is some great stuff. Old Fitzgerald 1849 is good, and relatively cheap. L&G Woodford Reserve is pretty good. I've only had a single glass at a fellow bourbonian's house, but that glass was damn tasty. Booker's (a Beam product) is very good, on par (almost) with Blanton's. Hope that gives you some better choices. As for bad whiskey being an oxymoron: Bad whiskey is BAD!! |

Personally, I prefer makers mark over woodford reserve and GJack. Black label Beam is pretty good. Wild Turkey rare breed is good stuff too!

Jack Daniels is the alcohol delivery system of choice for inbreds and hoopies everywhere.
Good Whiskey: Old Grandad, Old Crow, George Dickels, Wild Turkey. None of these will break your bank account or your skull. Maybe consider trying rye whiskey. Wild Turkey Rye and Old Overholt are good places to start. Jim Beam makes rye, too, I don't care for it. |

Isn't Jim Beam Burbon?
If you want to try a really good Whiskey try Jack Daniels Single Barrel, a little more pricey but it is incredibly good. As for Burbon go with Maker's Mark. As for old Grandad and old Crow, until you are taking up a permanent residence on a park bench there is no justified reason for drinking that. JerrY |

Anyone ever wait until the remaining dribble of whiskey has done a fair amount of evaporating from the glass and then smell it? It REALLY smells like an oak barrel. Even my Henry McKennah (sp?) has that serious oak barrel smell...

Jim Beam is my staple bourbon. In fact, bourbon is all I drink. Blanton's is the best in my opinion as well...smooth on the rocks. In fact, keep the Blanton's bottle with the horse-and-jockey bottle stopper and refill it with the cheap stuff. For some reason, it tastes better. [:P]

I have a bottle of "Virginia Gentleman" in my freezer. It tastes like shit, but cost $4 and isn't bad for marinating steaks (the only reason I buy whiskey)
