One of the defining moments of my childhood was the TV mini-series "V", with the benevolent looking human invaders that were really lizards underneath here to steal water and humans for food. I watched it mostly for the blue laser assault weapons (AR-15 fan in the making). But my mom wouldn't let me watch it, so I had to sneak in a half hour or so in another room and have my friends fill me in later at school.
I saw a DVD copy of it for sale at Wal-Mart and bought it on the spot! Full length, uncut! And I don't even own a DVD player yet! I borrowed one and watched the whole thing today!
What shocked me was this: I remember the story having a bit to do with power, who had it, and what people did as a result of it, either fighting the aliens, sucking up to them, or ignoring the situation. But as a ten-year-old, I missed the whole connection to the Nazi's, and how it was a repeat of their sinister takeover of society. I found myself in shock over the parallels both to the Nazi's, and to similar events, though on a much smaller scale, in AMERIKA! I even blurted out loud at one point "Gee, they'd never make a movie like this today!" to many similarities in our own culture.
Anybody remember this? EXCELLENT SHOW! I strongly recommend that you folks pick this up and watch it. I'm going to use it as an ant-fascist education tool for my kids when they're old enough.
Plus there's a good shootout with M-16A1's...
