Assume a tanker truck is carrying 8500 gallons of diesel, 7.2 pounds per gallon is 61,200 lbs and would have the truck near the max 80k GVW.  I'm not a trucker, but I've seen other truckers here say 6-7MPG for a truck near max GVW.  





8500*7=59,500 miles.  Running out of road would be a problem before running out of fuel.

IIRC they hold around 7,000 gallons, tractor/trailer should get around 6 mpg so around 42,000 miles.

Take the amount of fuel on the tanker multiply by fuel mileage.

3-5mpg that would be 15,000 to 25,000 miles. It doesn't seem very efficient.

Don't forget to account for the increase in fuel economy as the fuel load is burned off.  Personally, when I drive I don't stop to pee until I need gas so this endeavor would kill me.

A semi tanker can hold 8500 gallons and the truck gets about 5mph.

=

42,500 miles not including the fuel the truck already holds which is usually 300ish so add 1500 and you get

44,000

I just assumed 6 mpg. Probably less under a full load, going to slightly more with an empty trailer.

Use up the fuel in the saddle tanks first, just get a funnel and a hose. Now let's see, if you pee about a gallon a day, hmmm.... better start another thread

Now, I just take my time. I enjoy the trip, and if I feel like stopping to pee or eat, I stop. I enjoy my travels almost as much as the destination, now.

Back when small LPG bobtail trucks ran on :PG instead of diesel, they could drive for weeks just on the fumes.

I'd say a 18-wheeler could go 50,000 miles easy.  60,000 if the driver keeps his foot out of the engine compartment.

In a modern truck you could go very far, especially all highway. You would definitely need to develop a formula for fuel burn vs. gross weight. Even in a 435hp 10 year old truck I managed 12mpg running with an empty trailer from Chicago to Minneapolis. That truck would get about 5 MPG on my usual hauls (local) while the newer trucks in the fleet would average close to 7.

i get ~7+ with an N14 525hp and 70,000 gross in a quad axle dump truck
