I was watching that MSNBC thing about the Rem. 700 triggers and they showed a quick clip of Border Patrol with some nice set ups. Could some one please elaborate on that more?

They are only shooting the Mexicans that the Mexicans don't want to shoot.

Because certain members of the border patrol are counter snipers
I think a more pertinent question would be " why wouldn't the BP have 'sniper rifles'"?
Why the hell not? You don't place armed men at the border without good marksmen to back them up or do counter-ops.
Uh, why shouldn't the Border Patrol have snipers?
Every other law enforcement agency has them. |

Because certain members of the border patrol are counter snipers Last thing we need in this country is illegal counters. |

Quoted:
To shoot people shooting at them. Logical... and yet... it seems that the justice department doesn't like our guys shooting at their guys. |
Quoted: They are only shooting the Mexicans that the Mexicans don't want to shoot. Based on what we keep seeing in the news, that number seems to be quite low. |

Border Patrol needs Rem 700s to look intimidating at their interstate check points and to waste the Minutemen watching the border.

Under what circumstances does law enforcement use a sniper rifle and how does that map to the BP's activities?

So illegals die tired? This made me laugh. And I agree. |

They are sniping from the southern side. Snipe back.
Fuck I wish West was running for POTUS. He has the balls to pull out of Afghanistan and put those guys on our southern border and put the PAIN on the cartels. |

They don't get ammo , there for watching to make sure illegals cross safely.

In fact, we should de-mothball the Paladin program just for them. The Army has almost a thousands M109A6s and will be upgrading them through the PIM program. |

Sometimes you want to shoot somebody that is 800 meters away, and you just don't feel like walking that far.

After looking at the photos and trying to identify a common theme, to shoot frogs/toads? |

Others have answered the Sniper Rifle question. Nothing more to add other than:
I would vote to give them Claymore Mines. A few claymore ambushes on the Mules carrying drugs would put an end to that practice ASAP. |

More or less. Not sure when the BPS would react to a hostage or similar situation. Seems more like a mission for local cops or sheriffs. |

As far as I'm concerned the Border Patrol should have Apaches, M1 Abrams, smaws, and MLRSs too. In fact, we should de-mothball the Paladin program just for them. This and more. |

They do? Good. Now if they could just get some M2HBs...they'd have a chance.
Because sometimes there just isn't enough cover close enough to the waterholes?
There is a lot of open country out there on the border... and it might be nice to have a rifle that can take advantage of that extended range.

I was doing vegetation and endangered species surveys on the border for the USBP several years ago and they had snipers on the hills above us for protection. We were surveying for roads that would be used in drug interdiction,
