As far as I'm concerned the Border Patrol should have Apaches, M1 Abrams, smaws, and MLRSs too.
In fact, we should de-mothball the Paladin program just for them.  |

Others have answered the Sniper Rifle question. Nothing more to add other than:
I would vote to give them Claymore Mines. A few claymore ambushes on the Mules carrying drugs would put an end to that practice ASAP. |

They are conducting paramilitary operations in open terrain against a well armed and well equipped enemy.
To not have rifles capable of engaging point targets out to extended ranges would be sheer idiocy. Here are some border photos I've taken, just to show what they do - Fence close to town:

I was doing vegetation and endangered species surveys on the border for the USBP several years ago and they had snipers on the hills above us for protection. We were surveying for roads that would be used in drug interdiction,
