I think you'd be way better off fermenting some sort of fruit juice, instead of making a foul imitation beer.
You could go a step further and distill your fermented fruit juice, and I don't think it would be harder than what he is talking about |

A supply of apple juice coupled with some Karo light corn syrup and yeast, would yield a fairly good hooch, and depending on the yeast, a fairly strong one.

They just want nasty tasting beer. |
