Yes, it's plugged in. Punching the on button does nothing. It's several years old. How do I check the power supply?

Jump it with a paper clip. Look it up.

Do a search on the internet,  But IIRC I jumped the gray and purple wires in the atx plug from the supply with a wire and tested the rest with a multimeter according to the output ratings that are usualy marked on the psu case.

unplug everything let it set a few min , restart if nothing happens it most likely the power supply went bad

First thing I checked. We had some storms blow through last night, thought they might have tripped.

Plus after it's all unhooked/unplugged....hold the power button in for a minute

I bought a new power supply, but it doesn't have all the cables I need...like the one that goes to the hard drive. Guess I'll have to make another trip.

Yup.

But hey... You don't have a nasty old junker laying around that you can scrounge the PSU out of?

It doesn't necessarily have to fit pretty, it just needs the right plugs comin' out.  I've even had the components of one computer running off of 2 different PSU's temporarily.  It's ugly and makes a mess of the desk, but it works.
