Sopacko, "Maple Sausage".  Not horrible, and I surely would consider it a meal.  I also have a noodles with vegables, maybe next week.

I don't think I ever had that meal when I was in.  I do remember one named sometihng like  "Captain's Crunchy Chicken."  It was the worst one imaginable.  How anyone could eat that is beyond me.

Captain's Country is by far the worst I've ever had.

Currently, Maple Sausage is the best MRE out there.

Haven't had that one. Some are decent. Of course it all depends on circumstances. My only experience is trips of a week or less. If you've been on the trail hard they taste awesome! I imagine that goes away though.

I've never eaten an old 80s or early 90s MRE but the current ones don't taste any worse than whatever processed food in a can or foil bag you buy at Wal-Mart. In fact some of the pastas are actually tasty.

An exception there is of course the omelette MRE.

There are vegetarian MREs in each case, I dunno if that fits the definition of being kosher/halal.

I had the one that was basically spagetios, that was actually some good shit!  Spagetios, 2 slices of some kind of heavy snack bread that was actually pretty good, cheese sauce, orange drink mix, and combos.  I was actually surprisingly full after that.

Wheat snack bread was the worst thing they have done to MREs. I hate that shit. Crackers for the win, dammit.

I tried a MRE just for "laughs & giggles," personally I think weren't all that bad, but I thought it was kind of expensive. BUT if you have a feed a huge group of people, and you don't want to get all of the different main & side dishes together this is the way to fly.

Making a pb&j with it wasn't so bad, but when you bread and cheese, yuck. Cheese was always the best, and it went best with crackers.

Pasta with vegetables with broken crackers mixed in
Meatloaf in brown grave (eat the meatloaf and break up the crackers into the gravy)
Chili mac w/ cheese (preferably jalapeno)
The new tuna meal is hella good too.  Starkist tuna, fat free mayo, and tortillas.

These surely can't be the MRE's of yore, that I remember having.  The grayish ham and cheese omelette was fantastique!

Yeah, that was my favorite MRE. In fact I think I'd take a vegetarian menu item over any of the other options as far as taste goes.

Nothing is worse than the circa 1985 Chicken a la King. However, I refuse to try the omlette meal from the current issue, so that's still in the running.

Anyone remember the old dehydrated pork patty from the 80's?

It was horrible unless you had some coca-cola to reconstitute it.

It was actually Country Captain Chicken and yes it was (is) horrible. Thank the Lord I was never hungry enough to eat one of those. Having said that, the day I walk into a resturant and find Country Captain Chicken on the menu, I'm ordering it and the following dinner pic thread I create will be epic.

MREs were ok, but I never felt like they were enough to make a meal.
The C-Rats were better in that respect. MREs always too scant imo.

C-rations were a bitch to hump, however. That John Wayne bar sure was nice though.

About like dessicated shoe leather, but you ate it when you got hungry enough.
I always ate it dry.

Anybody remember the Oatmeal Cookie Bar??

I LOVED those things.  Squeeze some jelly on them and they were even better.

I would trade whole MREs for them sometimes...

This was back in the early-mid 90s.
