Looks like 26th and Cal is going to be filled up this year, in record time!  Then they are going to allow people out, cause of over crowding.  Glad this state is protecting our citizens, and allowing us CCW.

COOK COUNTY -- Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan has enough military surplus tents to sleep 300 inmates on the grounds of Cook County Jail if the prison population reaches a record 12,000 this summer, which could happen, the sheriff said Tuesday.

Sheahan said the slow judicial process and an increase in inmates ordered held by the state on parole violations are the primary reasons the jail population continues to climb at the facility at 26th Street and California Avenue.




 


 


The jail housed 11,298 inmates Tuesday, 1,500 over capacity and 200 more than were held at this time last year.

The John Howard Association, the federally mandated jail monitor, said a February report showed the average inmate had been at the jail more than six months, about twice longer than the average stay just a few years ago.

Sheahan last week visited Maricopa County, Ariz., which uses tents to house some inmates. The Cook County Sheriff's Department received the tents for free from military supply depots in California and Colorado.
