Just picked up another cheap Savage/Springfield shotgun with no serial numbers. What year did they start requiring a # ?

Heh. I have two Mossberg pumps. The 500 is on a 4473, but is pre-68.  The Maverick has a serial number, but was F2F.

Win.

Many manufacturers put them on prior to 1968.  GCA 68 created the mandate.

Many guns were made to a certain price point for retailers, Sears, MW, and others.  Many of these did not have SN.  I have a shotgun from Wards and a couple of .22 that do not have SN.

Good old '68.  Made the world so much safer!
