I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed. Around here, it's a bit hard to keep in stock. When I picked up a six pack today on my way home from work, the guy at Red, Wine and Brew (I love this place) told me that I'd best stock up. Others in the store agreed, telling me that it was REALLY good. I've been burned before, by common folk who don't really share my palate. So a sixer it is.

It's not bad. I'd call it a solid B+ beer. It's a good example of a lager, and admittedly...I'm really not much of a lager kind of guy. I can't really put my finger on it, but for some reason I expected more out of Great Lakes. It's a bit...sharp tasting. I'm not sure how to put it. I also think it might be too malty.

What's your favorite Oktoberfest? It's that time of year.

I found it much the same.  Good, solid, but not great.

I like Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest.

I like Lagers, a lot.  Dislike all of the hop-hop-hippity-hop-uber-super-duper-hoppy beers that so many guy fawn over.

It's ok.  I see them at every beer fest we go to.

Are you looking for a domestic to try?

No no, you don't understand. I love obnoxiously hoppy beers. I'm an unapologetic hop head.

I Loooooooove IPA's.

I'm an IPA hater, but love most of Great Lakes line up. FWIW, If you like GLB's stouts try Lion Stout. I just discovered it and loved it. It's kinda like New Holland's Dragons Milk without the Bourbon kick.

I like it!  Not nearly as much a Christmas Ale, or my personal Jesus of beers, Lake Erie Monster.  Still a decent offering, and I am a faddy type of dork who loves "tasting the season" so to speak.

But of course, you knew all that.  I predict you give Christmas Ale a solid "B" by the way.  I am not enough of a purist to demand a lack of adjuncts in the most festive brew of the year.

Looks like i'm off to the fridge to grab one. (Oktoberfest, that is.)

Then you will not like any of the Helles or Märzen Lagers.

I do not usually drink any IPA's and have Saison's every now and then.

Have you tried Pliny The Elder from Russian River?  My usual hoppy IPAs include Dogfish Head and Smuttynose but I was very impressed by that beer when I visited Russian River's brewery in northern California earlier this year.

Edit:  gotta love their tasting board:

The Edmund Fitzgerald Porter by Great Lakes Brewing Co. is a wonderful brew!

I wish we could get Great Lakes here in Virginia.  I have to stock up everytime i pass through Ohio on my way to visit the family in Michigan.  I probably won't get a chance to try it, but GLB hasn't left me dissappointed before.

I miss that very brew.   We would do the "World of Oktoberfest" in college where it was one of the 5 offerings.

It's actually pretty decent (I'm on #3, and oddly it's starting to taste pretty good).

I think my hopes were too high, given how much I worship Great Lakes in general.

Michigan's best beer is Shorts Brewery IMO.

Local's light is THE BEST LAGER I've EVER HAD!!!!

Bellaire Brown is a really good dark beer too!

+1 on the IPA's.  (my favorite, too)  ESPECIALLY if they're dry hopped.  (Think: Liberty Ale)

That stuff IS hard to find. Couldn't find a drop of it last year. I've wanted to try it pretty bad.

Not that good huh? Well, I like Sam Adams Octoberfest, so I'll probably stick with that.

Great Lakes makes awesome beer though.

I've got a keg on tap right now of Oktoberfest from Capital Island Brewery in WI. Well balanced, decent amount of spice and just enough hop on it to know you're drinking a real beer.
