I've been on this board for a while now and I honestly think I've seen Charleton Heston mentioned twice in about 4 years.
I always took Soylent Green as a dead serious movie as to what happens when American government oversteps it's bounds. You don't end up with opression, just least common denominator equality with opression as a side effect. And let's not forget he marched with blacks and was part of the civil rights movement long before it was fashionable. And he was an outspoken gun rights advocate (in case you didn't know). So step up to the plate you damned dirty arfcommers. Don't be thwarted by the NRA-haters. 
"From my cold dead hand" > "Wolverines!" - admit it, the first one is funner to do! My cooking group is having a Soylent Green themed night which is what made me post this. 
Yes! We are featuring the ultimate, "you are what you eat," movie! Join us to watch this 1973 classic with the very fine (over)acting skills of Charlton Heston and eat some food inspired by the movie. For those of you who know the movie - might be asking... uh how? My answer to you - be creative! What are the foods of the future? What foods are most entrenched in the continuing prosperity of our culture? What foods would be most valued should our resources be diminished to the extent that we can't grow fresh food? And - last but not least - as everything tastes like chicken - perhaps soylent green does too!

I think Heston was one of those admirable people with a less than admirable career, where an actor like William Holden had a stellar career with a less-than-stellar personal life. Too bad, because I like Holden's work, and have been told I look like him. I personnally will always favor the person who didn't let his star power corrupt him. |

I don't know if that is true or not, but times were a LOT different then, and the bottom line is, he was a true champion of the Second Amendment even if he might have made a mistake or two. love heston. I met him a few years back here in Provo and got him to sign an American Rifleman Presidents column for me.
He was a super classy guy. Stood up, despite being in pain and being interrupted by me, looked me in the eye and introduced himself. one of my favorite famous people cause he had the balls to stand up for what he believed in. |
