Two different vehicles; but they will both get you where you want to go. I used to prefer Crown, but Jameson had an oaky flavor that was a good change of pace. Canadian Club 12 year old (Classic), tastes like Crown, is cheaper, but a little rough on the tonsils. I quit drinking 2 years ago...couldn't justify all the high blood pressure medicine, just to drink.

I tried a bottleofJack over the weekend. It had a harsher taste than the crown, but I found it tolerable.

Seemed to have a charcoal taste so to speak.

This. Crown is brown liquor for people who don't drink brown liquor. I'm not saying it doesn't have it's place...but it's place is no where near the top shelf, and I'd rate Jamesons over CR anyday. One is for coke, the other is for ice (or maybe a car-bomb )

Depending on my mood, I l like a good Scotch as well. For a good (and cheap) blend try Sheep Dip. For a good (and cheap) Straight try Glen Fiddich.

I like it ok, but it just doesnt have that burn, like Crown. I love the way Crown burns on the way down and then when it hits bottom.

I will drink Forty Creek though. It is really good mixed with water.

OK.

Jack= Tennesee Sour Mash Whisky that tries to taste like Bourboun. Made from distilled sourmash corn

Jim Beam= Bourbon, made from distilled corn

Crown Royal= Whiskey, made from distilled Rye grain

Most Irish Whiskies= Distilled from various grains, mostly Rye, Bushmills BlackBush 3 times distilled =

Irish Malt whiskies= Taste like Scotch whiskeys.

Canadian Mist= Cheap "unrefined" Crown Royal in taste.

Crown Royal Reserve= Smooth enough that you barely need any water or ice.

Crown Royal Extra Rare= Smooth enough to need nothing. Ice to preference.

My boss at where I used to work in the summer was big on Forty Creek. In fact it was my first whiskey because I snagged some at his daughter's wedding.

My experiences with it have been sporadic. I don't think the taste is ever very consistent.

Like one of the above posts said, it's pretty smooth. I usually don't pick up much alcohol taste.

For some reason it sometimes has an overpowering banana taste, but as with my comment on consistency, it's not always there.

Also a pretty good Whiskey that no-one has yet to mention that compares very closley to Crown XR is Tangle Ridge.

Slightly too sweet in comparison to my taste, but VERY close to Crown XR.
