What's the best non-lethal defense weapon someone can carry? My friend is having issues with an ex and wants something to carry. I figured I'd ask arfcom regarding the state of the art of non-lethal defense stuff that a woman can carry.

Fat people are hard to kidnap.
ETA for serious answer: I bought my girl the Kimber pepper-gel gun (cabellas or anywhere similar caries them). |
|
Quoted: Trained GSD. Seems a little heavy to carry. I'd go with a big can of spray. |

I hear pooping your pants stops a rapist, and I hope I never have to test that.

Glock 26 Non-lethal...not nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.... It's for the children!!!! |

Fat people are hard to kidnap. . Actually it's really easy, just offer us a free Pizza - "Yeah it's in the backseat, go in an get it" |

Quoted:
flashlight Fleshlight, what the hell would she do with a Never mind. FLASHLIGHT. |

Stink pots were used by pirates to clear the deck of a ship before they plundered it. I would imagine smelling like doo doo would have a repulsive effect on a crazy ex...

LTL? Any non-firing zombie standoff device should work. My buddy arms his wife with a few cans of wasp
spray hidden throughout the house. It has a 20ft. garaunteed range printed on the can. I can't emagine it would be pleasant to get hit with that. |

It's easy enough to keep ready, deploy, and operate without trouble for nearly anybody. There are no batteries to discharge and/or maintain. There are no probes which have to penetrate heavy leather or wool or thick sweatshirts. There is no physical force and strength and balance required to strike with it. You don't need to be within arm's length to use it. I can't think of a better 'tool' and I think I've made a good case for it. |

I've used OC Sprays, Batons, pepperball guns and Tasers.
The Taser is by far the most effective. |

I thought having a sign that says "Gun Free Zone" was guaranteed to stop all violence?
how about a shirt with that printed on it? |

Yeah, imagine mom walking around Kohls with a can of wasp spray. |

I've wondered about the liability of wasp spray. It's one thing if someone's in your home and it's the closest thing to grab, but I imagine you'd be better off shooting someone in public than causing permanent injury with an unapproved less-than-lethal weapon. |

anything in 9mm would be considered non lethal I think you better tell those NSW guys to turn in their Sigs then , and we should tell those dead taliban guys that they weren't killed. |

Quoted: Get both... Taser (LEO-type model, with laser aim) AND OC Again, it's a matter of what mom, the wife, the daughter can walk around with ALWAYS. Because it's about routine, and always being prepared. No excuses. None of this "well I'm just going jogging, I can't really carry all this..." nonsense. |

Any effective self-defense device is going to require a concerted effort to carry... The 'little keychain' OC dispensers are in the 'better than nothing, but...' category.... |

I recommend this: http://www.defensedevices.com/refforharkey.html It's tiny and a little bigger than an old Binaca breath freshener. Easy to carry with you all the time. |

Get both... Taser (LEO-type model, with laser aim) AND OC screw the LE type taser, the civilian taser's give a much longer ride! I think OC sucks, many people are tolerant to it. Plus ever fight someone who is covered in OC, yeah it sucks. I am by no means a badass, but all the oc made me want to do was kick the guys ass who sprayed me. yeah I couldn't see shit but you can still fight. |

I wouldn't lump Tasers in with stun guns, one will drop you where you stand and other makes you say "ow cut that shit out!" We got a demo in our CHL class, pretty cool. |
