Had some rapid hearing loss in my left ear recently and doc wants to rule out a tumor before doing anything else.

Had one done 2 weeks ago.
Get ready to lay down with your head in a foam support with a cage over your face.
A little claustrphobic but doable

The MRI its self is painless. A little noisy maybe. Ultimately,nothing but good can come of it. You'll either have peice of mind that your brain is fine, or you'll have caught the problem early. Know that your docs are sharp and looking out for you. If there's a problem, they'll catch it and you'll get the best care in the world.

It's painless, except for after laying in the same exact spot for and hour, getting up and moving your shoulders hurts because the shits all locked up because they make you sit weird.

I just had one done last Wednesday with/without contrast. It took around 30 minutes total, peice of cake.

It's no big deal. Just wear socks because the room is usually cold. They will probably cover you in a cotton sheet.

Seriously, taking drugs for the MRI is a little over the top. You just lie down for 30 minutes, they put your head in a brace so you can't move it, and it's sorta claustrophobic.

The machine makes a bunch of thumping and vibrating noises, that's it.

I hope everything turns out okay.

I've had a couple of my brain and a bunch of my spine. They are cake. Take the drugs if you don't like tight spaces and you'll be fine. Good luck and I'll pray it isn't a tumor.

When my Brother was fighting brain cancer he had many brain MRIs, on one hospital visit he had something like 4 of them done in 3 days. They weren't a big deal, he slept through most of them.

This shouldn't be very annoying - just slightly annoying. RedDane had it right - the MRI room is often cold. You'll want to wear a long sleeve t-shirt, some sweat pants and some socks. You can't wear any clothes or anything else with metal in it (no glasses, zippers, etc.).

Basically, they'll have you lie down on a table on a track in front of the machine. Wear the ear plugs they give you and make sure they are in tight and that you are in a comfortable position. Once you're in place and ready they are going to put a frame around your head to keep it still. At the start of the actual imaging, they will move the table on the track so that you are moved into the machine. The machine itself is extremely loud and makes lots of weird sounds. Just relax and you'll be fine.

Can be a little claustrophobic, esp. when they immobilize your head and pull the thing over your face. Otherwise it's no big deal.

Just got back. Was in the machine a lot longer than I thought I would be and they gave me some stuff in my arm for a contrast scan. Didn't like that too much.

Anyway, a couple of days to analyze it and I will update.

I have several lasting hours, nothing but pure boredom. And the contrast taste like shit, yes I can tatse the stuff from a IV.

When your head is in the imager, you may feel some discomfort in your anal region. This is normal.

Also, sometimes the magnetic field will bunch up your underwear; this is also normal.

The most common one is gadolinium.

By itself it would be very toxic, so they chelate it and surround it with other compounds to protect you from the effects.

It can be hours of boredom depending on how much they are imaging.

I have spent almost 3 hours having a brain and spine done for MS diagnosis.
