I didn't understand it, either.  Is it supposed to be some sort of pride about being a welfare reciepient?  Like sports throwback jerseys are meant to commemorate the team's history and give their fans some sort of morale boost?

I saw it while I was at the State Fair.  Between the fair and the gunshow I had been to earlier that day, I saw more white trash, rednecks, ghetto thugs, hood rats, and undocumented guest workers in one day than ever before in my life.

Probably because in the days before they issued them a card, store owners of low morals would buy the remaining food coupons that recipients had left over at the end of the month for .50 cents to the dollar?

I get it.

You had to use paper food stamps, and you had to suffer the embarrassment that went along with using them.  Now those stupid cards are out and they are swiped like a debit or credit card.  There's no embarassment or encouragement to get off the system.

For the record I think we should return to the days of goverment cheese and plain white boxes.

Years ago food stamps looked like the pic on the shirt. Now they are in card form. I believe the shirt is stating that the wearer of said shirt is cool because receiving food stamps is gangster.

Yeah, I remember the days of the paper food stamp.  In the early '90's, I worked at a place that took them.  People would come in, buy a $0.05 piece of candy and use a $1 food stamp to pay for it.  So, they would get $0.95 in change.  I can't count how many people would come in for candy several times a day every time they got their stamps in the mail.  I also knew some folks from around town who would buy food stamps at $0.50 on the dollar and then use the stamps to buy their groceries, while the actual reciepient would use the cash to buy drugs.  That kind of shit makes me glad I joined the Army and got the fuck out of that town.

Yep, he/she/it is attempting to show their "old skul cred" for the homies.

Let me take a guess - you saw this at WAL-MART?

I hide a gun under whatever shirt I happen to be wearing.

Way back then the welfare parasite could sell those at a discount to get cash.  Cash for cigs and booze.
