I've been thinking about getting a used diesel truck for a number of reasons, towing, durability, etc.

Best engine/trans combos in what trucks? Any new stuff coming?

How long will stored treated diesel last?

Thanks.

7.3 liter Powerstroke with a five speed manual
late 90s early 00s don't know the exact years

Either that or a

5.9 liter Cummins with a Nv4500

The problem with stored diesel is biological growth more than anything... Gasoline tends to degrade chemically... From my understanding, Diesel doesn't really do that, but unlike gasoline, bacteria can grow in it, and will if the fuel is stored for a while.

Treating the diesel will help reduce this growth, but after a while it is probably inevitable. I know that the tank isn't usually the real bitch... The actual fuel pump and filter apparati are the nightmare.
