Do you call your son, "Son"?

Some men, me included, at times will call their sons "Son" rather than by their name. Others don't. Is this a regional thing? Being of Appalachian birth and heritage, it was common in my family.

My dad refers to me by name. My best friend calls his son by his name too. We're all city folk.

Originally from the South.

My father called me son when he was making a point that was to be taken very clearly.

I do this with my two sons, now.

Other times I call them by their nicknames, and their given names when they are in trouble.

Im from the midwest. My father called me by both my name and kid, as well as some other names depending on what stupid shit I was doing.

I do pretty much the same thing.

My "boy" also known as "the boy" is two years old and I have called him son as well as his many nicknames, hell, I even call him Rudy from time to time. Rudy is our yellow lab.

My dad always said son or kid.

Since you brought this up and I was thinking about it. Im not sure I ever heard him call me "Jeff", other than introductions or trying to get my attention in public.

I do the same for my boy.

I got called "Son" when I did something stupid, or needed a beating, or talking to. (Or was getting beaten and talked to for doing something stupid

I call my boy son. Normally when he is doing something that just looks dumb as hell. Well he is 2 so he does a lot of that.

My dad does, I thought it was a generational thing. But his father was kind of from Iowa or something (mysterious past, long and boring story) so maybe it is regional. I sometimes call my sons by name, always by full name when they're in trouble, and "Buddy" when they're not.
I don't think I've ever said "Hello Son"

Both parents always call me "shooter". I shot rimfire silhouette when I was young, small range only 2 shooters could shoot the match at a time, so they gave you a number and would call out shooter numbers to come to the firing line. Yelling out shooter was frequently the best way to get my attention and the name stuck.

My full name was and still is at 26, only used when I'm in trouble.

I go so far as to call other young men "son" when I am making a very important point. For instance, when my nephew was using some language around my son and my young cousin that we consider inappropriate here in the Stega household, I pulled him aside and said, "Son, we do not use language like that in this home and I expect you to follow those same rules while you are here. Now go play the Wii and have fun."

My dad always called us bubba. I was little bubba and my brother (BigDozer66) was big bubba.

I don't have a son but sometimes call my daughter son. Mostly right before I do a facepalm.

My dad was born in WV, so was my grandpa, grandma is from OH and mom is from KY. They all say it occasionally, my dad and grandpa are about tied for how often.

One time he called "Son" when he wanted to talk to my brother. I looked up, and he said to me, "Not you, Moon."

Another thing that happened is the time he bought 3 identical winter hunting hats. My brother pointed out that we ought to label them to avoid confusion and grabbed a sharpie-type pen and wrote his name on the inside.

I took the sharpie and said, "This one is mine," and promptly wrote the word 'Mine' on the inside.

My father smirked for a quick second, and said, "Well, this one is MINE, and I don't want either of you two guys wearing it" With that, he wrote 'Mine' on the inside. He knew he was being a smart-ass.

My brother said "Now you two are going to get them mixed up!"

Dad and I insisted that it would not happen because it said 'mine' on the inside.

For the next several months my brother was constantly checking to make sure we were not wearing each others hats.

It drove him half nuts because he never caught us wearing the wrong hat.

ETA a lot of my stuff here at sea is identified with the word "mine' on it. I've never had a problem. They all know who own it.
