Well I'm trying to decide on whether or not it would be worth it to just go ahead and shell out the bucks for a $900 brand new MTD riding mower (like the ones at Sams and Home depot) or keep looking for a used $400 mower.

Has anybody had any experiences with MTD's? Are they worth the money, or are they junk and just another example of you get what you pay for?

They are worth the money for what they are, lawn mowers. Do not mistake any but the biggest MTD as a garden tractor. If used just for your home (not commercially) and well maintained you will be fine and you will have a warrantee. FWIW, my dad sells MTD and about 30 other brands of garden and lawn care equipment and has serviced just about all makes.

Good Luck.
