I too recommend the Ruger LCR. You will not catch me firing it in .357 however. My hand has already suffered too much damage over the years, and as that wise philosopher Harry Callahan once said, "A man's got to know his limitations".
The .38 version is slightly lighter, as the sub-frame is aluminum instead of steel. |

I picked up a used Tauras copy of a Jframe about 10 years ago. I think I paid $150 or something. Its .38 special but Ive got no complaints. THe only thing I did was round up and debur the rear most corners on the hammer as it scratched me. Once that was done it was perfect for an IWB. If I buy another anubby its going to be a hammerless titanium in .357mag

I really like my S&W 642. lightweight, small enough to pocket carry, handles .38 Special +P, fairly cheap new, and even cheaper used. Does everything I need it to do. I don't personally feel the need to go all the way up to .357 Magnum, but as always, YMMV.

The smith j-frame has been the standard for several decades. Few other choices can match it and I've not heard of ANY that surpass it.

Model 60 S&W is still the pinnacle of what you are looking for.

A 3' barreled SP101 handles .357 well. Finding a good concealment holster for it is a bit more limited.

S&W 360SC - 5 shot Scandium .357 mag. Firing it is like hitting your hand with a hammer, but it is definitely concealable and last ditch. I believe it's 12oz empty. It really disappears.

The Stainless Steel makes stout loads more controllable and loaded with 135gr +P Speer Gold Dots is a formidable gun in capable hands. |
