1. We and Europe have set up optical quantum entangled communications over distances of several miles in air. The Chineese just did it a few miles further.
1a. I'd bet a weeks pay the DoD has technology even better, but wisely aren't talking about it. (One of the holy grails... sub communication...)
2. Before anyone gets excited, what is "Teleported" is quantum information, not any matter, not even a photon. That all travels at normal light-speed like any other laser or radio wave. What happens is an entangled quantum state is created, and the photons are sent off, and interact with the receiver, and the resulting quantum state instantaneously "teleports" to the reciever. However you still had normal light-speed carrier for that "faster than light" information.
This is GREAT for encryption, and someday having scary-powerful quantum computers and optical processors, but has nothing to do with moving matter or energy instantaneously across a distance.
