I have two rifles I could use for a truck gun. I only want to use one... What would you use and why?

Mini-14
OR
SKS

SKS, because then you have a chance of hitting the thing at which you're aiming.

SKS, cheap, accurate, reliable, powerful. Load up some stripper clips for the SKS, put them in a bandoleer and you are GTG. Reliable mags for the Mini are expensive.

I have honest to God Ruger 30 rounders.... for the mini. No problem there

I guess you've made up your mind. What was the point of this thread again?

As much as I like the SKS the Mini-14 or Mini-30 with the old folding stocks make for a nice compact weapon for easy storage in a trunk and you can use larger capacity magazines that are better than anything for the SKS.  They are also much handier.  I think they make excellent truck guns compared to something like the SKS.

Your missing the point... I asked a FIREARM question in GD

No I don't have my mind made up... Just pointing out I have good clips for the mini....

sell one of them and buy a glock, it'll be more accurate

Good point––Everyone needs 'nades in their BOV.

Why those two? Why not a cheapo AK?

poll fail!!! no pie or neither POS

I vote neither/ none if you leave it in the truck and don't park in a secured garage.

Good point.  OP- you need to buy 10 more rifles to give us more choices.

I use a Mauser 24/47.

Cheap, reliable, cheap ammo, and does not look "scary".

Stripper clips are getting pricey though.

With that being said, I voted sks.  Pretty much for the same reasons that I use for the Mauser.

Oh look, I'm posting in a thread other than the ones where I dislike everyone.

That said, I'm sure even a romy AK is just a little more than an SKS, uses the same ammo, a smurf's asshair more accurate, and smaller.

Whichever one you don't like, that way when your truck is broken into and it's stolen you won't miss it too much.

i didn't specify a fotay!!!

It's what I have and if it gets stolen I am not going to be "that" pissed... You know like a M1A M1 Garand...

ETA: No job... No extra money to buy anything

Ah I know how that is.

SKS because it's less expensive and if it gets stolen from your truck you won't feel as bad about the loss.

The coin flip says SKS.

go to the pawn shop and get yourself a used Hi-Point.  either a handgun or the 9mm carbine.  they are cheap, they go bang (no guarantee how long they'll go bang before something breaks) and you won't miss them when they are gone.

but out of those listed, I would go with the SKS with a *good folding stock
*if they even exist.  the POS that was on one of my rifles wobbled too much.

Using that criteria, then I'd keep the Mini-14 in the truck.

You, my friend, have a dilemma.

From the options, SKS without a doubt.

Glock schmock, get a Springfield Operator.

SKS: cheap, works every time, .30 cal., cheap ammo, fairly accurate, can be reloaded easily and quickly, built like a brick shithouse.

Get an SKS.   Cheap and plentiful.  Ammo is cheap.

If you want to go nuts, order an SG Works bullpup stock kit to make it a little more fun!

sks due to cost and durability.

The mini 14 is a good choice, but to expensive to leave in a truck that might get stolen.

Neither.

Marlin 45/70 FTMFW!

SKS but only 'cause that was the best choice offered of the two.

That said I tend to be more practical 'cause I actually use my truck gun. I've been carrying a .22 Remington Nylon 66 in my various PUs for 30+ years. I keep it stored in a gun sock and it is in as good a shape as the day I bought it used. Goodness knows how much game I've taken with it or vermin that I've dispatched with it over the years.

It holds 15 rounds and has excellent irons my older eyes can still see. Stored in the gun sock you hardly notice it is there. In fact had one PU broken into in the 80s and they missed it! I like the fact I can put 100 rounds in my console and it takes up less room than a couple SKS strippers or a AK mag and it only weighs 5 lb. loaded. I figure my carry piece will take care of any mean 2 legged critters I may run up against.
