It was called 9th Company, based on true events of a russian army unit in the afgan war. Its produced by some russian ministry, dubbed in english and english subtitles but a damn good movie.

Thats it. The movie started with the guys showing up at a recruit depot, and if that was an accurate depitction of soviet basic training that was brutal Although they did get to gang bang the camp skank before shipping out to the war, we never got to do that at Ft. Lenardwood

One of the better war movies I have seen in awhile.

Based on real-life events, 9th COMPANY recounts a year in the shared lives of a group of young soldiers drafted to serve in Afghanistan during the final year of the Soviet conflict. It is a poignant story of the unit s dedication to each other during their valiant defense of Height 3234...a futile battle that ravaged their forgotten company, who fought on, unaware that the war had ended.
Reminiscent of Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket and The Big Red One, 9th COMPANY is credited as being the first real post-Soviet era war film.

The highest grossing film in Russia in 2005 at $27 million, 9th COMPANY also won a NIKA Award for Best Film and marks the feature directorial debut of Fyodor Bondarchuk, son of renowned director Sergei Bondarchuk War and Peace, 1968.

I couldn't get into it. I guess my taste in movies is too Americanized.

I saw it in Iraq but it had been translated to chinese and then to english. Imagine trying to read a cross between internet speak and valley girl as translated by a 6 year old kid with ADHD. It was brutal but a very good watch.

I just ordered it off of EBay for 9.99 shipped. Looks to be a good addition to my war movie library. Watch a couple of scenes on YT but I prefer a DVD to watch a movie from. Looking forward to getting 71: Into The Fire later too.

I was suprised as hell. The wife and I were going through the selection on friday, pickins were pretty slim. Got that and another movie, 5 minutes to heaven. I thought that one was dumb.

I thought the rifle qualification scene was kinda funny.

"You shoot good with AK, here is sniper rifle...*fires off some shost*...You shoot good with sniper rifle. Congratulations, you are now sniper!"
