I do all the time. If I am in the middle of nowhere, and I'm hunting, hiking, offroading or just spending time in the wilderness, I open carry either a shotgun or AR15. If the worry is snakes, I take the shotgun. If the worry is drug traffickers, I take the rifle.
If I'm hunting, I'm typically with my dad, who lends me a handgun to carry. Since I normally hunt with black powder rifles, it makes a lot of sense to carry something semi-auto for 2 legged pests. So, who all has open carried their AR15? I figure everyone, since people here hate hbars and carry M4style/lightweight carbines.  FWIW, in the past, I almost exclusively open carried a Colt 20'' hbar.  My new colt 6551 (government profile) will probably be better suited for this.  |

There is no law against open carrying a long gun in Texas but my guess is that you wouldn't get far if an LEO spots you. They don't have to know the law or be right they can still take you in.

Just while shooting. For the most part if I'm doing something else (like hiking) I'm in a place where that would probably draw wayyy too much attention (like Sabino Canyon). If I were hiking more out in the desert I would take my AR for sure.

yes during hurricain ivan i went down and helped my parents clean up their place on the coast. a few neighbirs and i walk patrols at night to watch for looters. LE was sparce and had their hands full. we ran off more than a few from the area.

Its legal here IIRC, but if you do it anywhere besides private property (Read: BFE woods) you're asking for a visit from the State Police SWAT team.

Yep, If any of you recall seeing Sheriff Babeu of Pinal County in the news talking about violence (that thread got 10 pages), and the pinal county deputy who was recently shot, all of my outdoor activity is conducted within 20 miles of that. There is "sign" of traffickers everywhere. So yeah, in the outdoors, my AR15 comes with me.

Of course. What a silly question. Did you ever try sticking AR-15 with a 20" barrel down your pants? It doesn't fit very well and hard as all get out to walk with. Thats just for starters. The 30 round mag poking out would certainly draw a lot of attention from the women though.

Yes, but only becuase I was going to the range and combined that with a MC ride, so I rode to the range with it accross the back. ammo in saddle bags. shot 300 rounds after sighting in , drove home. as I was leaving teh range a father son pair looked at me like I was strange and made the comment " well I wont cut you off in traffic" (WTF, you WOULD if i wasnt carrying???" ), reinforcing my claim(made originaly by a far smarter man that I) an armed socity is a polite sociity

Yeah. Carried my HBARed middy around in the woods a few times. Eventually figured out "fuck it, HBARS are too damn heavy for "real world" use", and set about to lighten my AR a bit.

It is however the reason why the shoulder thing that goes up is banned in my country as they fear that people who have jumped though a insane amount of hoops to own a AR 15 will start CCW ing them under their raincoat or something

As for being in the building, hardly anyone paid much attention. It could be because we were among the first to go inside and people thought we were LEO's.. Nobody made the announcement that we were coming in to the people working in the building, so there were some pregnant pauses as we passed the receptionist desk at the ground floor level. The most we got from people inside was a longer than normal glance from staffers and lawyers as they jetted in and out of the offices. Now, for the Capitol Police in the House, they stopped us at the door and told us that they hadn't had a problem with people coming in with guns in the past but they told us that we were not to touch them under any circumstances and just sling them behind our backs. Obviously they had no idea what our intentions were and the speaker was a very clean 40-50 yard shot if one of us were to want to use our guns, so it was probably a pretty tense day at work for them-I actually felt sorry. We went to the Senate and Supreme Court but they weren't working that day. |

OC my AR whenever I'm in the woods. (Nat'l Forest). I'm relatively discreet, however...cradle it like a normal rifle, or against my side...never "low-ready."

I never OC, this capitol trip and two tea parties are the only times I have ever OC'd. It was a little bit of a hassle to take an AR to a tea part in an affluent city with lots of police presence (they left me alone but made for damned sure that I knew they were there) but everyone there who saw me knows it's perfectly legal to carry a gun while demonstrating against things they don't like in Government. |
