Feds Fine Oregon Company $30K Over 3-letter Word

(AP)

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - A three-letter word may cost one of the nation's oldest air ambulance operators a $30,000 fine.

The word is "our" - a possessive personal pronoun meaning it belongs to us.

But
the U.S. Department of Transportation says that was the wrong word for
Mercy Flights of Oregon to use to describe a helicopter technically
owned by another company.

The Mail Tribune reports that the
helicopter was purchased for Mercy Flights' exclusive use, but a
separate company was formed for the deal, and it has ownership on paper.

The
DOT says Mercy Flights broke laws prohibiting unfair and deceptive
practices in the sales of air transportation by saying it is "our
helicopter."

The nonprofit was fined $30,000 but it will only have to pay half if it avoids other pronoun violations for a year.

A $30,000 fine for a non-profit that does air evac of critical medical patients?  WTF.

Where does the DOT think that money is going to come from?  It's going to cost someone some money and it isn't going to be coming from the profits from some fat cat businessman because there are no fucking profits.

Thank goodness the DOT is keeping a sharp eye out and accomplishing things for the general welfare that no individual state or private entity could hope to accomplish.  Just another example of one of our fine bureaucracies at work keeping the nation running like a well-oiled machine and protecting her citizens from fraud and deceit.

We often say, "Our state, our city, our street, our school, our... " and the Fed's are going to fine over a common usage of a common word?

And in what way were any citizens harmed by the use of "our".

Sheesh!

Check this out... So I'm at the state fair, and all of the hot dog stands have, in small letters, "about a" next to the "Foot Long Hot Dog" sign.  Some asshole bought a foot long hot dog, measured it, found out it was only 11 3/4, and threw a fucking hissy fit of such proportions that all of the hot dog vendors had to change their signs. That person, whoever they are, deserves to be curb-stomped in front of their wife and children.

They appear to be the one group of people who get a pass on this.

If Ford, Proctor & Gamble, or Microsoft made all kinds of promises in advertising for a product, and said product delivered NONE of those promises when purchased, there would be legal hell to pay for the company.

However, the democrats can lie all day long in political ads and promise all kinds of "hope and change", then be in power for two years and have delivered nothing but failure, but nothing gets said about it.

It would be interesting, indeed, if candidates and/or political parties could be held financially liable for any campaign promise they made if they failed to deliver it.

It will never happen though.  You would need to write new laws to do that, and laws get written by, well...politicians of course.

Yep.

And the statist-line is that "well you can choose to vote them out next election if you're not satisfied with their election claims". Which is no different than someone saying "well you can choose to buy a different product if you're not satisfied with their advertising claims".

Someone ought be fired.

Any ideas how we could direct a firemission on this?

People in the Air charter business understand that this is a big deal right now.  The Feds probably went after the wrong people, but they are nothing if not clumsy and incompetent.

The FAA has Zero accountability, and that is the problem.

Absolutely. This one thing was all that was keeping America from being a complete Utopian society. Today, the air was fresher, the water more sparking, the grass greener than ever before. God Bless America!!!

This is precisely what brave young men and women are fighting and dying for on foreign soil.

I understand that DoJ is engaged in vigorous prosecution of Best Western motels, as they are neither the best or exclusively western. They seek up to $46.23 in damages. The suit has been going on for 19 years, at an estimated cost of $36,984,650,000. It's worth it though. Those scoff-laws need to be taken down!
