I've always love the upscale look of their laptops, but I've never used one - only Apple products I have is their iPods.
Can I load my Windows XP software like Office 2010 or even games like Battlefield 2 etc.? Please no bashing or turn it into PC vs Apple   |

If they were competitive to PC prices I wouldn't have anything bad to say. For a laptop that I only see as good for surfing the internet you don't need the extra hardware that they come with.

I bought a MacBook pro 1 time and returned it 2 days later. I just wasn't happny with the product.

On my 2nd Macbook Pro and no complaints. I've had other laptops over the years and haven't found any other brand I'd like to use more. I use Parallels for Windows XP so I can use my business applications and it works great.
They are usually more expensive than other laptops, but for me it's worth it. May not be the case for others (and for some reason they're usually very vocal about it). |

I almost got one a month ago, but in the end, couldn't pull the trigger due to the price difference. I got a Toshiba with similar specs for $605 out-the-door on a Best Buy special.
I've played with them quite a bit, and they are nice laptops. The build quality is very good, but when I realized I could literally buy it twice for the same price with Toshiba - I couldn't do it. |

I just bought my wife a 13" macbook pro. It's sweet. It's out third Apple laptop. Be sure to consider the Apple Care to go with it.

Well, you're looking for an opinion so here is my take on it.
 If you're going to use the computer for very specific software (final cut pro etc) that is OSX only and is related to video and audio production, then that's a good idea. Outside of that it's good for word processing and general office work. Yes, you can load Adobe's creative suite on there and develop all sorts of web based stuff, but it's a pain in the ass. If you're going to develop software, play games, develop websites, work/troubleshoot with networks, use as a diagnostic tool, you should go with the PC. It's far more flexible and the price point is superior. I use both platforms and I find that there are perks to both. If you want to get away from dickering, go with the Mac - but you'll lose your flexibility. Macs have very little expansion capability and they are locked down by Apple. The software selection is very minimal when compared to a Windows PC. The Mac pro is an awesome computer for mobile media work, but you'll pay an arm and a leg for something that does not have the software support of a Windows box. Just my take on it.

My current MacBook Pro is nearly 4 years old(AppleCare expired last November, and I got some extra key caps put on at the Apple store right before that - and I installed a larger hard drive a few months ago myself. Not as easy as some other models, but not as bad as my old iBook G4
)... Wow... I think it's time for an upgrade, I really want to get one of the new unibody MBP's with the SD card slot.Bootcamp or Parallels is all you need for Windows software. Well, and a copy of Windows to install. I haven't looked to see what's supported, but I doubt you would want to attempt any gaming in virtualization. And Bootcamp means partitioning the drive. Nothing too major, you can do that without wiping the drive these days - but it still seems like a PITA to do. So do it when you first setup the machine to make things easier  |

most people who find that they dont like macs or a mac cant do what they want arent very tech savvy
theres nothing a windows machine can do that a mac cant. when you buy a mac you can set up bootcamp, so essentially you have a windows machine for gaming and whatever else you want. and then you have OSX as well bottom line you really cant go wrong with an apple product |

I just picked up a MBP, my first Apple computer after about thirty years of PC. I love it.
I run Windows 7 in Parallels when I need to use PC compatible software. It's taken a bit of getting used to the different key commands, but I'm happy with it so far. If you're really into computer gaming switching to Apple will be painful. if you primarily use your computer for Internet, email, editing and viewing pictures, and word processing, Mac will fit the bill for you. IMHO, YMMV. |

I just bought my second Mac laptop last week and am typing on it right now. My first one was a 13 inch white macbook with a 2 GHZ intel CPU. It was flawless for 3.5 years. I upgraded to the current 13 inch macbook pro and it is a great laptop.
Yes, they are expensive but after what I went through with a Toshiba machine and an HP machine, I will never go back. Patrick |

At work I was issued a macbook pro. I have gone through a few of them in the last 4 years. But we are very hard on them at my work. It usually takes something like being dropped from the top of a ladder, or getting a screw gun through the screen to kill them. Even with both of those examples we were able to recover the data.
They are fast, tend to have less annoying bugs and are usually very well built. In a way the lack of annoying bugs is what you are paying for. Since Macintosh only releases a few products each year they have a very controlled development cycle for hardware and software. This allows them to avoid a lot of hardware/software compatibility issues of the windows world. Once you get used to the keyboard, quick keys and some of the quirks of the OS they are great. Keep in mind that I tend to use this with a work focus not gaming. You can get ms office for the macbook except visio if I remember correctly. I have a copy of COD and CIV for gaming on trips. Also windows can be installed on macs. The easiest windows install I have ever done in my life was done on a macbook pro because macintosh gives you all the device drivers you need during the install. |

Yes, you can dual-boot both OS X and Windows (either XP or 7), but it would be madness to pay the Mac premium if you're mostly going to run Windows-only applications, like the games you listed.
No one has specifically mentioned this, but be aware that virtualization software such as Parallels or Virtualbox will NOT let you play Windows games on a Mac. For <insert long, boring technical explanation here> reasons, virtualization software is lousy at running 3D graphics applications, such as games. They run poorly under virtualization, or not at all. So you have to dual-boot with Windows if you want to play Windows games on a Mac. Which, again, means you might as well just buy a Windows notebook. If you really have a hard-on about the Mac OS or some Mac-exclusive apps (of which there are very few worth mentioning, I sure can't think of any), go for it. Otherwise, you might as well get a Windows machine for half the price. The price difference will buy a lot of Windows software. It makes a lot more sense than paying out the nose for the OS X "experience," then installing Windows anyway. |

I run vm fusion virtual machine and run win7, 764byte and xp64 in addition to snow leopard. Oh I use office 10 64 bit too.
the biggest deffrence is my 17 macbook pro never hangs or stops. BTW all my desk tops are high speed water cooled dual and triple vga card windows machines. I have had lots of window based lap tops my last one being a 17 toshiba but I will never buy another windows laptop |

I have owned 2 macs and will continue buying them for the rest of my life. Hey mac guys, what would you rather run, Bootcamp, Parallels or VMware. Yes, you can use your Office, but as already mentioned, you need to run Widoze through Boot Camp. I LOVE my MacBook Pro.
