Hey, what does the hive recommend as a zombie melee weapon? Imagine you are out of ammo and have to go Sparta on some zombie ass, what would you use? Machete? Bayonet? K-bar? Wakizashi? Tomohawk? My only requirement is that it can be incorporated in a SHTF rig somehow, so none of this:

If you're out of ammo, you just pull it in close under your chin and hope that you take a few of them with you.

If you have to get into melee combat with a zed you've already lost.

The risk of infection is too great, drop of blood on your lips or in your eye or small cuts

Nice! I ask because ATM all I have is an AK bayonet. Was considering a cold steel machete, but open to other options.

That wouldn't be a very good choice anyway.  It's only going to get hung up in the first zombie's clothes with all those protrusions.

But to answer the question, something like this maybe?

The goal is to destroy the brain, so a cutting weapon isn't going to do you much good, it does you no good to hack them up, or lop off limbs, you have to destroy the brain, and you can't rely on taking there heads off every time, particularly because at close range against a hoard of zombies your not going to be able to swing it full speed. A bludgeoning weapon would be best, to crush there heads, I would suggest a mace, or possibly a chain mace (AKA Flail, or Morning Star), but you might not be able to swing it properly, and it takes some skill.
