I'm curious as well. I have a netbook and use it constantly for internet. An iPad may be more convenient.

My boss has one and he's liking it so far. The new hasn't worn off yet, though.

I really like mine, I'm posting from it now. I like the screen size. I just ordered the apple tv yesterday and I will be able to control it from the iPad. I stopped using my laptop at home once I got it. I don't use it for business other than sometime checking my email. I have my computer hooked to my stereo so I can set on the deck and control what music I want to play. The battery lasts longer than my laptop too. The Facebook app is still designed for the iPhone so you only get like half res but it works fine.

I've had two.

Wifi only
and
a 3G one.

Definitely get the 3G model.  Sold my Wifi to fund the 3G then once I got my iPhone 4 and saw that retina display ...... I sold my 3G.

I would still recommend it.  Great battery life, much handier than a laptop (and even a netbook)

Have one and still love it, with the new OSX 4.2 being release in 2 months we will have multi tasking, printing, and a hos of new and much needed updates. I do have one complaint that hopefully gets taken care of via update, whenever I load a page with a shit ton of photos it will load then crash safari. Now thats my only gripe that I have with it, I was using it more when I had my iphone cracked and was able to teather

Its a great products for surfing the web, checking mail, games, music, apps, ect but it does NOT replace my desktop/laptop

I was able to watch The Hangover and the magpul vids on my way to vegas a month back and it made the trip much more fun and enjoyable.

I've had one since the first week or so.

I use it daily around the house. I have the WiFi only model, but it works well all over my house. I also take it on some local trips when my iPhone screen might not be large enough for my plans. I have a jailbroken iPhone 4, and the programs that allow me to stream internet to the iPad over Bluetooth, without having to have a separate 3G SIM, or subsciption. Speeds are usually very good, however it is dependent on 3G for any kind of decent internet connection.

One of the most used programs is NetFlix, which allows me to watch movies or some TV shows anywhere, anytime. Great for browsing AR15, and just using it for the web in general. I frequently have it on my lap while watching TV so I have something to do during the commercials, or if something in a show makes me want to do some quick research.

Definitely not a buy it and forget it device for me.

My wife and I ( and our two kids, 2 and 4 ) all use our two iPads daily.  The two year old watches all her Disney movies, bubba watches Ben 10, Clone Wars and plays video games.  The wife does web, email, listens to audio books, keeps up with her TV shows and streams Netflix.  I'm a hobby developer, so I use them for all that and then testing my app and prototyping new stuff.  It's a game changer as far as media consumption.  It's awesome for the kids when we go out.  They can watch a movie, play a game, or we can use it as a king sized carrot and with hold it if they are being stinkers.

I've grown to really like iBooks ( the book app ) for reading technical documents.  I've got tons of docs in PDF form that are very convenient to read on the pad, so now when I got a second instead of blasting bad guys I'll try to catch up on my reading.

At the risk of being fan-boyish, it is exactly as "magical" as promised. Of course YMMV.

IM if you have questions.

My wife mainly uses hers to play games.   We take it on vacation where it pretty well serves as a laptop.   She's interested in getting books on it but hasn't done it yet.    Battery life is excellent.   No easy  way to print from it yet but that is coming they say.

The download movies look great on it and would be as good as the video on flights.   You can push the video out of this via component cables to equal 720 resolution or pretty close so in theory you could take your own movies with you.

We rip our movies down to iPhone size and they look great on iPhones, the iPads and look quite acceptable pushed out the stupidly expensive component cable.

I will also agree that the battery life is excellent, my daughter went on a Disney binge one weekend and ran the thing nearly 8 hours straight.  It still had a 20% charge on when I found it.

I use mine for web browsing but, as soon as I get a wifi printer I'll use it more for business. I've already bought the apps Pages and Numbers, which are great productivity apps. I've found it's much handier than a laptop for vacationing. I have the wifi one for two reasons; I didn't want another 30 dollar data plan and, in my opinion most everyplace i visit has wifi available.
I really like mine.

I've got the 64gb version with the data plan and it's awesome.  I don't think people realize how revolutionary these are.  I use mine all the time for everything from meetings to watching HD movies and TV.

The real leap for the iPad will be when you don't need a computer for the initial setup, the new OS releases and the addition of a USB port.  I can honestly see where this device could replace the laptop for most users.

Once you get one, you realize how convenient and fast it is to do most of the things you used to rely on a standard computer to do.  I will go through most weekends without even starting my laptop anymore.

For business purposes, the dropbox app and Documents to Go Premium make it practically replace the laptop for meetings and short travel.

My mom has the 64gb model and loves it.  She replaced her Kindle and netbook with it.

I'm considering one for work, with the external keyboard...  We'll see.

Love mine (64 G, 3G wireless).

I've stopped using my laptop altogether.

It's very easy to check e-mails and surf porn er arfcom.  there's even a nice ballstic app.

some guys don't like the lack of multitasking - not a big deal to me.

if you're trying to watch videos on the full screen, the resolution is kinda blocky.  trying to figure out how to fix that, if possible.

the lack of ability to play flash vids is a decisive negative IMO.  so much porn er content out there is in flash format.

as shipped, it's not ideal to start cranking out full documents, unless you have an external keyboard.

i use mine constantly, as it's always on (no waiting to power up and boot, and then launch wireless connectivity).

My girlfriend calls mine my "woobie." I don't go anywhere without it.

I'm still a PC, but this thing is awesome.

For multitasking, the Spirit JailBreak works quite well. The 256Mb of memory allows for at least 2-3 programs to function normally at the same time.

Many of the other Jailbreak programs work just as well on the iPad, such as, SBSettings, Backgrounder, (For Multitasking) Categories, etc. You end up with an iPad more like it had OS 4.0 installed with these features included.

I tether my iPhone to my iPad and run it on the web off of my phone data plan.

I would at least wait for the first update. The new iPhone has a faster processor than the iPad. Also, there may be other sizes available.

Also, you have to ask yourself how you're going to hold it. A laptop sits on your lap at varying angles without physically holding on to it. To do that, the iPad needs to be continuously grasped, or you need to find a cover that'll do that for you.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Apple fan, but the holding thing is what nixed the deal for my wife (for now).

The iPad and iPhone 4 share the same A4 chip. The new iPhone has twice the ram(512Mb), but it doesn't seem to make any difference in speed. Both devices seem to be as fast as your ISP or AT&T Network. On Speedtest.net, my iPhone on 3G actually runs faster than on Comcast WiFi early in the morning !

I have a silicon rubber cover/skin on my iPad, and it keeps it from sliding around on my lap, or while using it during the day.

They don't seem to be getting old very fast. I use both every day, and would truly miss either now that I'm used to their convenience.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Apple to come out with a new model iPad anytime soon. Doesn't seem to be their style. Maybe a version with a front & back camera in time for the holidays, but they tend to upgrade products on a yearly basis.

Look how long it's taking the others to get their version of an iPad to market.
